Project Overview:
Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been engaged to undertake a Feasibility Study through to EPCM construction and commissioning by one of our key clients. This Project involves greenfields and brownfields developments including earthworks through challenging terrain, construction of new crushing facilities, and transmission line installations.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to find work scope and cost estimates for a project’s electrical engineering aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project’s electrical engineering aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities:
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
Participates in the design, development and modification of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
Coordinates electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
Provides technical assistance to other electrical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or +-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Relevant work experience in FEED, proposal & detailed engineering preferably in an EPC industry for large industrial plants, power projects, utilities, oil and gas plants.
Have demonstrated experience in the Australian Mining and Metals industry.
Knowledge of electrical system studies using ETAP/DIgSilent Power factory software to produce short circuit, load flow, motor starting & voltage drop , relay setting & protection coordination, arc flash and earthing studies.
Previous experience in preparation of single line diagrams, schematics, load lists, MV and LV cable calculations, cable schedules, equipment lists, and material take offs.
Should have worked on equipment sizing, specifications, MR preparation, technical bid evaluation and vendor print reviews of various electrical equipment like MV & LV switchgear, MCCs, power & distribution transformers, DC systems / UPS, Cables, generator circuit breaker, bus duct, lighting fixtures.
Review of 3D Models and be a stakeholder in 30%, 50% and +0% Model Reviews with Client, Vendor and Sub Contractors.
Ability to participate and contribute to project risk assessments including HSECiD, HSECiC, HAZiD and HAZOP’s.
Should be conversant with electrical layouts such as routing, equipment, lighting, earthing & lightning protection, substation layouts etc.
Key Factors to determine qualification:
Experience (Total / Design / Australian / Mining or Oil and Gas)
Ability to work in Perth Office (3 days per week / work rights)
Ability to work independently and as a team, follow schedule and budget
Knowledge and usage of AS/NZS 3000
Preferred to have - Power system study experience, Procurement package management
