Job Description
This role works within an engineering‑led team, supporting projects, system upgrades, and commissioning across complex industrial and utility‑style environments. You’ll contribute to the configuration, testing, commissioning, and optimisation of electrical, control, and automation systems, working closely with engineers, automation specialists, and operations personnel.
While the role includes site‑based and commissioning activities, it is not an everyday tools‑based trade position. The emphasis is on automation, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and systems‑level problem solving, with a balance of field engagement and office‑based technical work. Much of the work is performed in live operational environments and suits someone who takes ownership, works methodically, and enjoys understanding how systems operate as a whole.
Key responsibilities include
Providing electrical and automation support as part of an engineering delivery team for industrial projects and system upgrades
Supporting and participating in commissioning of electrical, control, and automation systems
Modifying, testing, and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
Diagnosing and resolving complex plant issues escalated beyond site maintenance teams
You’re a qualified industrial electrician who is comfortable working within an engineering environment and is motivated by automation, control systems, and solving complex technical problems. You take initiative, follow work through, and are keen to build deeper capability in controls and automation rather than routine trade work.
You will bring:
An electrical trade qualification (essential)
Hands‑on experience modifying and troubleshooting PLCs in live industrial environments
Familiarity with Allen‑Bradley (Rockwell Automation) PLCs, ideally in manufacturing, utilities, or infrastructure settings
Exposure to Ignition SCADA, or similar industrial SCADA platforms
Experience working with HMIs and plant‑level SCADA systems to monitor, diagnose, and optimise operations
A background working on complex plant or infrastructure
Comfort operating across varied and sometimes challenging environments, including remote, marine, or on‑water sites
What Makes This Role Different:
Project‑focused work rather than repetitive maintenance
Strong emphasis on automation, control systems, and system behaviour
High‑level fault finding and structured technical problem solving
A mix of site‑based commissioning and office‑based engineering support
Well suited to electricians who enjoy learning, responsibility, and working at a systems and engineering interface
Why Join Us?
A strong focus on safety, quality, and collaboration
The opportunity to apply and further develop engineering‑adjacent automation and commissioning skills
Work that goes beyond “business as usual” maintenance
Ongoing career development and learning opportunities
A paid day off for your birthday
Heavily discounted seafood
Access to Maxxia salary packaging, novated leasing, and rewards programs
Workplace health and wellbeing support for you and your family
