Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides oversight of the external facing Emergency Medical Services Educational programs provided under the Denver Health Paramedic Division. Provides oversight and evaluation of education personnel and students; performs policy and programmatic recommendations and implementation; acts as department liaison to internal and external groups; procures emergency training equipment and maintains supplies; directs the daily operation of the EMS Education Department and the functions of its personnel. Functions as Paramedic School Director under the school accreditation guidelines.

Essential Functions
• Completes daily tasks related to the scheduling of courses and financial obligations to the organization. Personnel cost management that includes scheduling/staffing, overtime utilization, payroll verification, and delegation of work assignments. (30%)
• Participates in education and training program development with staff as well as occasionally assumes lead role program events. Responsibility for Paramedic School accreditation, finances, course planning, operation, evaluation, and course revisions. Assures that all course clinical goals and objectives are met, and that course evaluations and revisions are completed in timely fashion. Provides emergency training such as CPR or bleeding control to the public in a variety of environments, such as sports facilities, Denver International Airport, and other public gathering places and represents the Division in a positive manner during public training operations. (20%)
• May assist in the evaluation of new educational equipment and the analysis of new textbooks and on-line educational materials. Develops and maintains a system to accept payments for courses offered to the general public. Upholds Denver Health’s cash handling policy and procedures and monitors for changes or advancements in technology. Ensures proper staffing for education events. Maintains a safe and aesthetically clean working environment. Reports to work as scheduled. (10%)
• Complies with the Uniform Policy. Provides verification of successful completion of on-line training, and copies of required certificates and licenses when requested. Follows established departmental policies, procedures and quality improvement objectives. Maintains effective public relations and professional interactions with students, families, ancillary customers (fire and police), hospital employees, the general public, city agencies, and members of the news media. Complaints from the public, other agencies, or departments shall be handled swiftly, professionally and in a fashion that best meets the need of the DH and the complainant. All documentation shall be submitted through the appropriate channel. Any issue unable to be resolved shall be discussed with the Assistant Chief Paramedic for further direction. (10%)
• Phone messages, e-mail and voice mail are to be checked on regular basis and answered as soon as is appropriate. Follows safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Uses all means available to assist customers of the department. If unsuccessful, enlists assistance, and attempts to avoid confrontation if possible. Uses appropriate record keeping for financial tracking and scheduling purposes. (10%)
• Evaluates the viability of training or educational programs and establishes priorities for delivering said programs. Completes appropriate standard work forms. Incident reporting systems are in place for the department. Incident reports shall be collected from staff or students when there is any indication of complaint or potential liability against DH. Supervisor’s responsibility to follow-up and ensure incident reports are turned in. (10%)
• Initiates orientation for new students when indicated or appropriate. May, at the request of the staff, act as a mentor to students and assist in assimilation to emergency medical services work. While in the role of mentor, completes appropriate documentation for students and new employees. (10%)

Education
• Bachelor's Degree required.

Work Experience
• 4-6 years Paramedic experience required.

Licenses
• EMTP-EMT Paramedic - CO - State of Colorado required.
• DLR-Colorado Driver's License Class R - DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• Able to communicate clearly and perform duties related to sales and customer service.
• Understands Denver Health and EMS Education department policy and procedure and can communicate it to staff.
• Is able to provide ongoing feedback and performance management for EMS Education employees.
• Able to manage training and education staffing levels and direct operations of the department considering the department's budget.
• Able to communicate effectively in writing, speech and electronic communications.
• Able to provide verbal communications/instructions in a constructive and informative fashion.
• Able to deal with queries or complaints from the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Able to provide written communications in a timely, complete and accurate manner.
• Able to interact in a professional manner with other personnel and ancillary services with the patient’s best interest in mind. Knowledge of Denver Health cash handling and purchasing policies.
