The Engineer, Database reports to the Manager, Infrastructure Delivery and will form part of a global technology authority.
We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join a highly respected organization to work as part of a team to assure and deliver Database technologies for a range of projects and BAU operations. The successful candidate will lead complex solution delivery for IT projects, working with in-house development teams and/or third parties to design, develop and implement infrastructure solutions. They lead on their own group of technologies and support in delivering the strategic roadmap for their technology area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Ensures consistent delivery of high-quality practices and standards
• Ensures proactive and reactive management of operational incidents, problems and changes
• Acts as point of authority for fault management, technical direction and/or strategy
• Monitors and interprets team and system performance, identifying and implementing improvement
• The successful candidate will interface with Business Team(s) to capture, understand and define their technical requirements, then design and execute appropriate solutions to meet those requirements.
• Effective delivery into projects with tight deadlines, embedding yourself within the project team to ensure successful delivery
• A successful candidate must have strong process, project management and communication skills.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
• Own and lead technical resolution for high severity production incidents
• Technical engagement in Incident, Problem and Change as part of BAU Operations activities
• Involve and drive estate wide Oracle patching, scheduled disaster recovery/ production crossover exercises and estate wide remediations and rollouts
• Adhere to standards for change control, database security and database patterns, while adhering to the governance and control procedures
• Define and lead database delivery requirements for service improvement unit initiatives
• Act as an Oracle Database technical point of contact internally and externally for technical queries
• Analyze re-occurring incidents and identify service improvements where possible
• Deliver process and documentation around automated patching and estate patch-fit remediation processes
• The ideal candidate should also have an understanding, and experience of: -
• Cloud infrastructure, Hybrid deployments and the concept of Software Defined Data Centre.
• Expert knowledge of database administration in multiple versions of Oracle – +i, 10g, 11g, 12c, 1+c
• Expert knowledge of RMAN, Dataguard, Database Performance Tuning, OEM, plus third-party products such as Imperva
• Expert knowledge of Real Application Cluster with Maximum Availability setup
• Oracle certified as a Maximum Availability Expert and/or Performance Tuning Expert a plus
• Expertise in solving database contention and Performance Tuning including both query and database optimization
• Extensive experience in Production support as an Oracle DBA with an experience in handling large, high volume and high critical environments
• Knowledge of the ITIL framework, vocabulary and best practices
• Experience working in a highly regulated environment and the associated processes and tools
Optional – Mandatory Requirements
• Experience with one or more of the following: SQL & Oracle
• 6+ years of experience with Oracle DB Administration
• 4+ years of experience with SQL DBA
