ABOUT APPLY DIGITAL

Apply Digital is a global digital transformation partner for change agents. Leveraging expertise that spans Business Transformation Strategy, Product Design & Development, Commerce, Platform Engineering, Data Intelligence, Marketing Services, Change Management, and beyond, we enable our clients to modernize their organizations and deliver meaningful impact to their business and customers.

Our 750+ team members have helped transform global companies like Kraft Heinz, NFL, Moderna, Lululemon, Dropbox, Atlassian, A+E Networks, and The Very Group.

Apply Digital was founded in 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. In the past nine years, we have grown to nine cities across North America, South America, the UK, and Europe.

At Apply Digital, we believe in the “One Team” approach, where we operate within a ‘pod’ structure. Each pod brings together senior leadership, subject matter experts, and cross-functional skill sets, all working within a common tech and delivery framework. This structure is underpinned by well-oiled scrum and sprint cadences, keeping teams in step to release often and retrospectives to ensure we progress toward the desired outcomes.

Wherever we work in the world, we envision Apply Digital as a safe, empowered, respectful, and fun community for people, every single day. Together, we work to embody our SHAPE (smart, humble, active, positive, and excellent) values and make Apply Digital a space for our team to connect, grow, and support each other to make a difference.

THE ROLE:

At Apply Digital, Engineering Managers are accountable for the success of our engineering talent—and for ensuring that talent drives strong outcomes for our clients and our business.

This is a technical team leadership role focused on team effectiveness, delivery health, and career development. You’ll work across multiple initiatives, helping engineers stay effective through shifting priorities, evolving processes, and real-world delivery constraints. When pressure rises, you’ll know when to shield your team—and when to push for more.

Apply Digital partners with globally recognized brands across a wide range of industries, designing and building customer-facing platforms, tools, and experiences. From retail to B2B, our projects are diverse—but always focused on meaningful digital outcomes.

We’re looking for leaders who balance empathy with accountability, and who can navigate people complexity and business realities with confidence. You might bring senior experience—but you’ll still be expected to adapt, listen, and lead with humility. If you care deeply about talent, thrive in fast-paced environments, and know how to focus teams on meaningful impact—we’d love to hear from you.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn’t about having all the answers on day one—it’s about showing up curious, adaptable, and invested in your team.

In the early months, you’ll build strong relationships, help engineers navigate complexity, and bring calm, clear thinking to shifting priorities. Over time, you’ll grow into a key voice in talent development, delivery health, and shaping how we scale our engineering culture across Apply—including how we evolve our delivery approaches, technical practices, and organizational structure. You won’t just operate within systems—you’ll help build and improve them.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supporting and growing engineers: Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to help individuals thrive and progress in their careers.
Fostering team health: Support a team of up to 15 engineers across multiple customer experience projects—typically web and app builds—ensuring workloads are sustainable and collaboration stays strong.
Navigating ambiguity: Help your team stay focused through shifting priorities, organizational change, and evolving tech needs.
Contributing to delivery: While you won’t be hands-on with code, you’ll help projects stay healthy by ensuring staffing is appropriate, risks are surfaced early, and engineers are supported in making sound, consistent technical decisions.
Hiring and onboarding: Partner with our talent team to recruit, evaluate, and onboard great engineers.
Working across regions: Collaborate with global peers to support distributed teams, share practices, and coordinate staffing needs across time zones and clients.
Supporting performance: Provide regular feedback, help resolve challenges, and ensure expectations are clear, achievable, and aligned with Apply’s values.
Shaping our practices: Collaborate with other EMs and leaders to improve how we grow, support, and scale engineering across the organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
Leadership in technical environments: You've led engineering teams—big or small—and understand how to guide them through delivery, growth, and change. Experience in an agency or consulting environment is a strong asset, especially if you’ve balanced delivery needs with people support.
Strong engineering foundation: You’re confident operating at the solution design level, and can engage deeply enough with technical discussions to support decision-making, hiring, and team guidance. You understand modern software practices and know how to assess technical choices—even if you're not the one writing the code.
People-first mindset: You care about growing individuals and teams. You’ve given feedback, mentored engineers, and helped people navigate both opportunity and challenge.
Cross-functional collaboration: You’re experienced in working with project managers, other engineering leaders, and internal stakeholders like client partners, directors, and HR. While you're not client-facing day to day, you’re comfortable navigating organizational complexity and surfacing the right voices at the right time.
Comfort with ambiguity: You can navigate evolving org structures, shifting client needs, and a whole lot of “we haven’t figured that out yet” without losing your footing. You know how to bring clarity when it’s missing, surface tensions constructively, and step into uncomfortable situations to keep people aligned and work on track.
Global teamwork: You’ve worked with distributed teams—or are confident in your ability to learn how to thrive in that environment. You value diverse perspectives and approach cross-regional collaboration with cultural awareness, curiosity, and respect.
A growth mindset: You’re not here to coast—you’re here to help shape something. Whether that’s growing a team, refining a process, or contributing to org-wide efforts like hiring, leveling, or culture-building, you’re in it for the long game.
