Job description
Fashion designers create original clothing, footwear, and accessories that are visually appealing and innovative. They are responsible for the artistic direction of a fashion collection, which is a group of products with similar design elements. Fashion designers' responsibilities include: Researching trends: They monitor trends in fabrics, colors, and shapes, and keep up with emerging fashion trends. They may also consult sales or retail team members, research competitors, or review trends in magazines and fashion blogs. Creating design concepts: They conceptualize and develop designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and commercially viable. They may create style boards and collect visuals to use as inspiration. Sketching designs: They may sketch designs by hand or using computer aided design (CAD). Selecting fabrics and trims: They may choose fabrics and trims to work with. Overseeing the production process: They may create prototypes or models, discuss designs with directors or managers, and instruct manufacturers. They may also work with other fashion designers or assistants to choose seasonal themes, and make edits to the line and build new concepts. Collaborating with teams: They may work with buyers, forecasters, sales, and production teams to ensure the item complements other products and is aligned with the business strategy and stakeholders' vision.
