Temporary Primary/Junior Summer Learning Program Teacher

Dates: July 7, 2025 to July 25, 2025
Successful candidates will be supported with two days of professional learning at the BWDSB to support assessment and evaluation and effective numeracy and literacy instruction tailored to the summer learning format.
Note: Courses will only run if qualified teachers are available, and an average minimum class size can be established.
Scheduling: Daily from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Amabel-Sauble Community School
Grades: 1 - 3
Target of Support: Literacy
Remuneration: $48.70 (inclusive of vacation and statutory pay, per the current OSSTF Collective Agreement)
Position Summary:
Summer learning programs support elementary students in developing literacy and numeracy skills and building student confidence and engagement. These programs are intended for students experiencing achievement gaps and/or social and economic challenges that impact their learning. BWDSB schools apply to offer these programs.
Summer Learning Program teachers will work in teams of two, to provide a structured literacy, numeracy, or blended literacy and numeracy program to primary or junior students in a three-week summer program. This program will include three hours of instruction each day followed by a two-hour recreational component.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Provide direct reading instruction and intervention (including phonological awareness, decoding and sight reading, based on the Science of Reading) for primary and/or junior students;
Use high impact instructional strategies in an effective numeracy program;
Gather and analyze pre- and post-data to measure outcomes;
Collaborate with another teacher in implementation of a literacy and/or numeracy program;
Communicate regularly with parents;
Make arrangements for recreational activities and,
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Experience:
A teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers; and,
Primary and/or junior qualifications required.
Assets:
Experience implementing a structured reading program, including understanding of the five components of reading, and use of decodable texts in the classroom, based on the Science of Reading;
Experience using high impact instructional strategies to support mathematics learning;
Ability to plan instruction based on assessment results;
Strong teamwork skills;
Excellent oral and written communication;
Excellent interpersonal skills; and,
Strong organizational skills.
Job Requirements:
Eligible to work in Canada;
Clean vulnerable sector police check.
