Job Summary
This position a is part-time, non-tenure faculty educator in TOPS (Teaching Outstanding Physician Skills) Course. The position provides facilitation across multiple themes/topics and skills and serves as a facilitator for the small group discussion, feedback, and contributes to formative and summative assessments. In addition, this position collaborates with other clinical and non-clinical faculty for the enhancement of team dynamics and to emphasize healthcare teamwork and interprofessional collaboration.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
TOPS: Medical Students
• "Clinician" role: made up of either DO, MD, NP, PA. This role aids in the understanding and integration of the medical content presented. Along with their co-partner; helps to guide team discussions, provides feedback to the team and individual interviewer(s), demonstrates and maintains a interprofessional and collegial learning environment.
• "Behaviorist" role: made up of either PHD, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC. This role aids in the understanding of human behavior and communication. Along with their co-partner; helps to guide team discussions, provides feedback to the team and individual interviewer(s), demonstrates and maintains a interprofessional and collegial learning environment.
• Conduct the small group interactive sessions and facilitate the team learning sessions per week (Wednesdays-Y1 and/or Thursdays-Y2) as assigned to Communication Formation and/or Clinical Skills and/or OSCEs.
• Communication Formation (CF) Sessions:
• Both facilitators will be responsible for maintaining the session format and flow, as follows.
• 1. Discuss readings and/or any assignments
• 2. Prep for patient interview
• 3. Interview simulated patient(s)
• 4. Team considerations and wrap-up
• 5. Individual interviewer feedback

Clinical Skills (CS) Sessions:
• Facilitators will be responsible for helping with clinical skills technqiues, training, and feedback.
• Learners will be working with simulted patients to practice skills, while facilitators observe and step in as needed.
• CF facilitators will be responsible for completing the end of course block narrative assessment for each
• student learner on their assigned team. Facilitators will rotate every course block for a total of five times
• to enhance diversity of thought and learning.
• CS Facilitators will participate in Mock OSCEs and OSCEs as assigned.
• Routinely teach and model professionalism and ethics.

TOPS: General
• Attend and participate in TOPS Facilitator training sessions and retreats (which occur at the start of and throughout the year), as needed.
• Prepare for, attend, and participate in the weekly pre-session facilitator meetings.

Other activities (NOT Required):
• Social gatherings (some of these may occur during evenings)
• Provide a base of support for curriculum activities as a contributing and collaborative faculty member.
• Attend or become a SOM committee/subcommittee member (see SOM bylaws for list).
• Attend White Coat Ceremony in the fall, in addition to any other SOM events in which faculty participation is recommended.

Required Education/Experience
• Clinician Role- A terminal degree (MD, DO, NP, PA) in clinical health science, and expertise in the use of
• technology and active learning instruction.
• Behaviorist Role- A license/degree (PHD, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) in the science of human behavior, and
• expertise in the use of technology and active learning instruction.
• Three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in education, and prior experience teaching in a medical
• curriculum is highly desirable.

• Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task.
• The ability to interact with both staff and faculty, at all levels, is crucial to this role.
• The ability to work resourcefully and efficiently in terms of time management, with a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and autonomy, is also imperative.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
