To provide virtual services in Northern Health, providers do not need to be located within Northern Health. Preference will be given to providers located within British Columbia, but consideration will be given to providers from Alberta, especially those that have worked in the Northern Health region.
Practice Details:
The Northern Health Virtual Clinic
Provides culturally safe primary and community care service for unattached patients or where access to primary care is limited.
Makes appropriate and timely connections for people requiring primary care, facilitating attachment and continuity through connections with local primary care homes and primary care interprofessional teams
Reflects the Northern Health Guiding Principles for Primary Care
Operates 7 days a week, including holidays, from 10 am to 10 pm
Utilizes CMOIS electronic medical record for documentation and Solo by InTouch for video appointments
(training on CMOIS and InTouch will be provided)
Is part of the Northern Health Enhanced Access to Primary and Specialist Care Strategy
Qualifications:
Doctorate in Medicine
Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
Remuneration and Scheduling In alignment with the Northern Health Guiding Principles for Primary Care, participation in the NH Virtual Clinic should not detract from contributions to community based primary care services. Physicians will be remunerated based on the family practice hourly sessional rate through a group service contract for the NH Virtual Clinic. Scheduling of providers will be managed through ByteBloc. Shifts are scheduled in 4-hour blocks, but opportunities to participate in a routinized schedule are also available. These opportunities will be identified through the expression of interest process. Consideration will need to be made for providers currently on existing service contracts with Northern Health. 2026 – 2026 Sessional Range: $165.77 to $1+0.77 (plus rural retention based on the community where the provider resides) Flexible shift options ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Providers are not required to complete a specific number of shifts, but maintaining at least one shift per month is recommended to stay proficient with the technology.
Providers can work from the comfort of their own home, supported virtually by an interdisciplinary team including administrative staff, nurses, and allied health professionals
Call Schedule:
Hours of work: We use Bytebloc for scheduling and put 2 and 4 hour shifts out. Generally, the shifts are 10-1400, 1400-1800, 1700-2100, 1800-2200, 1700-1+00
On call requirements: Flexible shift options ranging from 2 to 4 hours. Providers are not required to complete a specific number of shifts, but maintaining at least one shift per month is recommended to stay proficient with the technology.
