Full job description
Meeting with designers to discuss design concepts and details, taking notes on sketches and mockups, and making sure they are implemented in the final product
Creating sketches of new designs or adapting existing sketches to suit new styles or trends
Communicating with other members of the design team such as pattern makers, tailors, and seamstresses who will be responsible for creating final products from sketches and patterns
Determining fabric requirements for projects based on sketches or models provided by designers
Designing and creating costumes for runway shows, photo shoots, or other events using sketches, measurements, fabric swatches, and other reference materials provided by the designer
Creating sketches or mockups of designs for fabric samples or prototypes. May also help choose fabrics and materials with designers or clients to create final products
Selecting materials such as fabric, thread, buttons, zippers, lace, and trim to create samples or prototypes of new designs

Preparing sketches or mockups of designs for review by clients or executives in the fashion industry
Preparing sketches or mockups of designs for production by sewing machines or other equipment using computer-assisted design (CAD) software
