A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) Nursing team as a Cancer Navigator.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to provide an efficient administrative service to the colorectal multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be an integral part of a new Faster Diagnosis Cancer Team and will assist and co-ordinate the diagnostic pathway, with responsibility for tracking patients through the first part of their cancer pathway. The role is critical in the patient experience of the cancer patient journey and will support the achievement of the 28 Faster Diagnosis cancer standard.

You must have good attention to detail together with the ability to prioritise your own work to meet deadlines. The role requires good interpersonal skills as you will be required to liaise with medical and nursing staff and other colleagues across the Trust, as well as patients, relatives and carers.

You will be willing to adapt to change and learn new skills, have good organisational and communications skills, and be able to deliver high quality administration services and customer care. Training will be provided on the systems required to undertake this role.

This role supports our clinical nurse specialist team to care for patients with suspected cancer.

Although this role is based at Warrington Hospital you may be required to travel to/work at the Halton site.

The purpose of this role is to support the speciality FDS Nursing team in implementing early treatment pathways for patients with suspected cancer to achieve a diagnosis of cancer or non-cancer within 28 days.

A large part of the role will be providing administrative and coordination support to cancer nurse specialists, consultants and other staff involved in the cancer pathway. This will involve daily and direct communication with patients, relatives, carers, and other health and social care professionals.

The post holder will be responsible for the coordination and tracking of patients from urgent referral of suspected cancer through to diagnosis in line with the 28 day cancer diagnosis standard ensuring that patients are seen within appropriate timescales. This will involve the use of different clinical IT systems.

The post holder will also ensure that patient pathways are running efficiently, identifying any blocks that could cause delays in cancer care or impact on patient experience. This will involve regular liaise with clinicians and admin staff across the Trust under the supervision of the FDS nursing team.

The other main duty of this role is to support the Clinical Nurse Specialists by triaging incoming calls to the team providing advice and guidance under their supervision.
