Position Summary
The Field Safety Specialist is a field-based role supporting a federal child safety and welfare initiative. This position is responsible for conducting in-person assessments related to child and family safety and well-being. The role focuses on observing conditions in varied environments using structured safety criteria, interacting professionally and respectfully with individuals and families, identifying potential concerns, and completing accurate documentation in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
The role requires strong judgment, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently while managing sensitive information. The Field Safety Specialist must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in dynamic field settings that require travel and flexibility.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· Conduct in-person home visits using structured safety criteria to observe environments and assess general safety and wellness
· Engage respectfully and professionally with individuals and families during onsite visits
· Identify, document, and report potential safety or welfare concerns in accordance with established procedures
· Escalate urgent safety or welfare concerns immediately through established reporting processes
· Verify required information related to household circumstances and care arrangements
· Prepare clear, accurate, and timely written documentation following field activities
· Maintain situational awareness and adhere to safety guidelines while in the field and during travel
· Communicate professionally and effectively with supervisors and team members
· Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity
· Travel regularly to assigned locations, including travel that may occur on short notice via air and ground transportation
· Adapt to varying schedules, environments, and field conditions
· Perform additional duties as assigned in support of operational needs
Qualifications
We welcome applicants who meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
· Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution
· Associate degree with two (2) or more years of relevant experience
· High school diploma with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
Additional requirements include:
· Minimum two (2) years of experience in social services, case management, human-centered services, criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, detention, or a related field
· Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish — speak, read, and write
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
· Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the United States
· Must meet requirements to travel domestically and provided example: Real ID, US passport, etc.
· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
· Strong computer skills including basic office software and mobile technology
· U.S. Citizenship required
Work Environment and Schedule
· Field-based position requiring regular domestic travel, including air and ground transportation
· Work is conducted in varied environments, including private residences
· Home visits are primarily scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM
· Occasional weekend and holiday travel may be required to support operational needs
· Travel may occur on short notice
· Role involves standing, walking, carrying equipment, and extended time in the field
· Flexibility and adaptability are essential
Security and Background Requirements
· Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
· Favorable credit check required
· Must successfully pass a background investigation and drug screening
· U.S. Citizenship required
· Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass and maintain all required background, security, and suitability requirements
Physical Requirements
· Standing, walking, and mobility required to conduct field visits and attend meetings
· Climbing, stooping, and kneeling approximately 10% of the time
· Lifting, pulling, and pushing approximately 10% of the time
· Must be able to write, type, and use a telephone system throughout the workday
· Ability to sit for extended periods of time when needed
