Adelaide Institute of Higher Education (AIHE) is one of Australia's youngest and most exciting Higher Education providers, currently delivering a Bachelor of Business and Master of Business Administration (MBA) to international and domestic students from its Adelaide and Melbourne campus.

The Finance Officer is responsible for the financial, accounting, tax, and payroll functions of AIHE. The Finance Officer will demonstrate developing expertise in financial and accounting management principles, assisting the General Manager with financial analysis and modelling, preparation of financial reports and short and long-term financial plans, and more broadly with operational and strategic projects as required. The Finance Officer will also be responsible for the conduct of and achieving day to day finance-related activities.

The role is full time (1-year fixed term contract) and based in Adelaide.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the full budget management cycle to drive financial planning/budgeting processes.
Prepare monthly financial reports including balance sheet, profit and loss, internal management reports, and cashflow statements.
Manage AIHE’s transactional processes, including purchasing, accounts payable, expense claims, accounts receivable, recharge journals and banking.
Manage all aspects of Month End Close, including financial reporting.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices.
Ensure the consistency of students’ tuition fee payment data across the various systems used by AIHE, currently PRISMS, Xero, and Meshed.
Manage AIHE’s business and trust accounts, in accordance with legislation.
Ensure that AIHE’s policies on instalment payments are complied and monitor students’ instalment payments. Follow up overdue payments and work with debt collection agencies, as may be appropriate.
Set up and update AIHE’s employee base, including but not limited to wages, benefits, leave balances, in line with legislation and their signed contracts.
Manage fortnightly disbursement of payroll including superannuation and taxes consistent with Federal and State-wage legislation.
In conjunction with the corporations’ public accountant, prepare and submit monthly IAS and BAS returns (including GST, PAYGW and FBT), state payroll taxes and workers compensation returns.
With the assistance of the corporations’ public accountant, assist in the preparation and of the Annual Financial Statements, and preparation and submission of the corporate tax returns. Liaise with the corporations’ external auditor.
Assist as requested from time to time with matters relating to student management.


ATTRIBUTES, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

Possess relevant bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant equivalent field.
CA or CPA qualified.
Previous experience in successfully managing and coordinating finance, accounting, and payroll functions.
Good knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory frameworks.
Experience in preparation of timely monthly financial reports and reporting to the corporations governing Council.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
Desirable:

Knowledge of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 and the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018.
Proven ability or demonstrate capacity to develop, implement, and communicate financial policy, controls, and procedures.
Experience in preparation of budget and cashflow statements and long-term financial modelling.
Experience working in the international higher education sector, preferably in a commercial setting.
Experience using Meshed.
Experience using Xero.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Working with Children Check (WWCC) with the South Australian government.
