Finish Grader Operator
With a busy construction season ahead, North Star Contracting Inc. is looking to add an experienced Finish Grader Operator to our grading team. We’re a Calgary-based civil contractor known for quality work, good equipment, and crews that take pride in what they build.
This role is suited to a skilled operator who understands production, accuracy, and safety — and can consistently deliver finished gravel surfaces ready for asphalt or concrete.

The Role
Reporting to the Grading Foreman, the Finish Grader Operator is responsible for operating the grader safely and efficiently to produce accurate, finished grades. You will be expected to consistently grade gravel surfaces to tight tolerances and work closely with the crew to keep production moving.
The ability to grade within a 10 mm tolerance is required, along with experience finishing gravel for asphalt or concrete placement.
Key Responsibilities
Finish grade gravel surfaces to a 10 mm tolerance
Maintain proper depth, slope, and crossfall as required
Perform fine grading for roadways, parking lots, and site work
Operate graders equipped with Topcon GPS / grade control systems
Read and understand grade stakes, plans, and job specifications
Work closely with foremen and grade crews to meet production targets
Assist other crew members as required
Operate equipment in a safe and professional manner
Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
Report incidents, injuries, and near misses
Follow company policies, procedures, and OH&S regulations
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Finish Grader Operator
Proven experience grading gravel for asphalt or concrete placement
Strong understanding of fine grading and finishing techniques
Experience with Topcon GPS and grade control systems
Ability to operate other heavy equipment considered an asset
Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
Problem-solving mindset and team-oriented attitude
Required Certifications
CSTS 2020
Ground Disturbance
Conditions of Employment
Must have reliable transportation
Ability to work long hours and weekends as required
CSA-approved safety boots
Ability to sit for extended periods
Ability to remain alert and aware of surroundings at all times
