Duties
As a Firearms Agent you will have the opportunity to assist in administering the Firearms Act Canada (the Act) under a designation of legislative authority from the Chief Firearms Officer.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Functioning as an intermediate-level decision maker on the eligibility of people to hold firearms licences and authorizations.
Accessing police, court and other secure information databases, and conducting interviews with a broad spectrum of people (e.g. firearms licensees, medical professionals, police, Crown, etc.).
Assisting Firearms Officers in the inspection of firearms businesses or shooting ranges.
Assisting in planning and implementing outreaches to client and stakeholder groups to provide information and assist with compliance.
Responding to enquiries related to the Act and Regulations, the Canadian Firearms Program, and the office of the Chief Firearms Officer.

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff Firearms Agent positions within the Chief Firearms Officer locations for British Columbia and Yukon.
A pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the Canadian Firearms Program across Canada on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives
Degree equivalency
Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.
NOTE: Candidates do not have to have completed these courses when submitting their application, but must have completed them to be appointed to a position.
Experience assisting individuals in a client service environment
Experience conducting research and analyses
Experience using a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities associated with full-time performance of duties for a period of approximately one year.
