Job Description
Sovereign Logic Systems LLC is a defense-focused research and development firm supporting U.S. Department of Defense innovation initiatives. We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to contribute to an anticipated U.S. Air Force SBIR Phase II prototyping effort.
This role centers on advanced embedded systems development, with an emphasis on hardware-level reliability, fault tolerance, and resilient system design in mission-critical environments.
This is a paid engineering position—not a partnership, internship, or equity-based opportunity.
Contingency Notice: Employment is contingent upon contract award and formal issuance of a Government Notice to Proceed (NTP). No work will begin prior to authorization.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and test embedded firmware in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontroller platforms (e.g., STM32)
• Integrate sensors, power management systems, and peripheral communication interfaces
• Implement low-level system reliability features, including watchdog timers, heartbeat monitoring, and fault-detection logic
• Conduct structured debugging, validation, and failure-mode testing under controlled conditions
• Maintain detailed engineering documentation, including system architecture, test procedures, and corrective actions
• Contribute to secure, company-controlled code repositories using version control best practices
• Support technical documentation for DoD milestones and commercialization deliverables
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Hands-on experience with embedded systems (academic, lab, or professional)
• Strong proficiency in C and/or C++
• Familiarity with bare-metal programming concepts (interrupts, timers, low-level peripherals)
• Ability to produce clear, structured technical documentation
• U.S. Citizenship required (due to ITAR/EAR and DoD data security requirements)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with STM32 or comparable ARM microcontrollers
• Exposure to safety-critical or fault-tolerant system design
• Familiarity with Git or secure version control workflows
• Background in power-loss mitigation, system validation, or reliability engineering
• Understanding of government compliance environments (e.g., DCAA timekeeping)
Compensation & Employment Terms
• Hourly compensation for all approved work following contract award
• W-2 or 1099 classification (determined prior to start)
• Compensation aligned with federal contractor transparency requirements
• No unpaid labor or speculative compensation structures
Compliance Requirements
This role supports U.S. Government–funded R&D involving proprietary system architecture. Employment requires:
• Adherence to Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and Intellectual Property (IP) assignment terms
• Compliance with export control regulations (ITAR/EAR)
• Accurate government timekeeping and audit readiness
Equal Opportunity Employer
Sovereign Logic Systems LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to fair and equitable hiring practices in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Role Clarification
• This is a paid, deliverable-driven engineering role supporting an advanced prototyping effort
This is not a co-founder, volunteer, or speculative opportunity
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
