Job Description

Fleet Operations Specialist

Own the day-to-day operation of a diverse, nationwide fleet, keeping NZ Post moving safely and efficiently
Work hands-on across the full fleet lifecycle, partnering with internal teams and suppliers to drive improvement
Ideally based in Auckland based but Christchurch considered, with real impact across one of New Zealand's largest and most varied fleets
Korero mo te turanga - About the role

NZ Post keeps New Zealand moving, and our fleet is right at the heart of that. We're looking for a Fleet Operations Specialist who knows their way around fleet assets, loves good process, and can keep a nationwide operation running smoothly, safely and cost-effectively.

This role is the key link between fleet users and our Transport & Fleet team. You'll take ownership of day-to-day fleet operations, making sure assets are maintained, managed, moved on (when needed), and fully compliant, all while delivering a great customer experience in a fast-paced environment.

Our fleet is diverse and growing, spanning electric and internal combustion vehicles, material-handling equipment, motorcycles, Paxsters and even bicycles. You'll also lead a small team of bike mechanics, ensuring our cycling fleet is safe, reliable, and ready to go. No two days are the same - and that's exactly how you like it.

You'll play a hands-on role across the full fleet lifecycle, including:

Overseeing daily fleet operations to ensure assets are safe, maintained and fit for purpose
Leading and supporting a small team of bike mechanics, setting priorities and maintaining high safety and service standards
Managing preventative maintenance programmes, incidents and accident repairs
Developing, embedding and improving fleet and asset management processes
Working closely with leasing partners and suppliers to optimise cost and performance
Analysing utilisation data to right-size the fleet and drive continuous improvement
Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external providers
Mou - About you

You're someone who understands the value of a well-run fleet and enjoys making it work better. Whether fleet has been your core focus or a significant part of a broader role, you bring practical experience, sound judgement, and a steady, solutions-focused approach. You're comfortable working at pace, balancing competing priorities, and building strong relationships across the business.

You'll bring:

Hands-on experience managing or contributing to fleet operations within a complex environment
Experience leading people, or the confidence and capability to step into a people leadership role
At least five years' relevant experience in fleet, asset management, operations, or a closely related field
A solid understanding of fleet management principles, compliance requirements, and relevant legislation
Strong planning, organisational, and analytical skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
Proven relationship-building skills and a customer-focused mindset
Good technical capability across fleet operations, industry trends, and MS Office tools (Excel in particular)
You also operate with openness and transparency, communicate clearly, and respond quickly when operational issues arise, because fleet issues don't wait politely for Monday morning.
