Job Title: Floater Pharmacist

(part-time)

Department: Pharmacy

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Pharmacist in Charge, the Floater Pharmacist (Part Time) will be responsible

for ensuring the quality and safe dispensing of medications, to ensure the provision of pharmacy

services. The Pharmacist will be responsible for the implementation/compliance with Pharmacy

policies and procedures. The Pharmacist will also comply with federal and state requirements for

monitoring and reporting. They will monitor the performance of pharmacy staff to ensure all tasks and

functions are conducted as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other

• Practices within scope of licensure and maintains active license
• Ensures the quality and safe preparation of medications to assigned patients
• Screens medication orders for accuracy, contraindications, and drug interactions
• Supervises all pharmacy department staff to ensure proper workflow
• Completes competency assessments on pharmacy technician staff and maintains in personnel file.
• Assists with the oversight and responsibility for Pharmacy Staff orientation/continued training
• Ensures security of the pharmacy area
• Maintains inventory levels within acceptable standards
• Maintains vendor relationships with computer hardware/software companies, drug wholesalers,

pharmaceutical manufacturers, and GPO
• Serves as a resource to all professional staff for questions or other information relating to the use

of pharmaceuticals
• Adhere to a delivery schedule for all prepared prescriptions
• Provides and promotes education to patients, patient families and the community about pharmacy

products and services
• Informs Pharmacist in Charge of patient comments and complaints
• Responsible for the effective operation of the pharmacy
• Responsible for ensuring that products and services which are delivered have complete and

appropriate documentation regarding products delivered client education and businesspaperwork
• Responsible to communicate patient needs to physicians and case managers in a professional

manner
• Responsible to monitor client’s medical needs over the phone as required
• Performs competency assessments at least annually under the supervision of a peer.
• Performs QA studies as needed (competency assessments)
• Participate in meetings of the company to include Staff Committee requiring pharmacy

representation as needed

• Twenty percent (20%) of overall responsibilities are dedicated to Quality Management
• Monitor staff performance according to objectives and Quality Management Program
• Promotes effective written/verbal communications
• Promotes and maintains pharmacy compliance with accrediting organization standards (URAC)
• Promotes and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory agencies regarding

the operation of the pharmacy to include FDA mandates and manufacturer restrictions for specific


drugs
• Promotes education for company employees
• Promotes the education of patients, patient families, and the community
• Participates in personal professional growth and development
• Completes the required CEUs mandated to maintain licensure and/or minimum of 8 hours of in-

service and training per year
• Other job relevant tasks as requested and necessary

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and/or

ability required as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC).

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Pharm D preferred

Previous clinical pharmacy support for pharmacy, DM programs, Quality and UM. Exposure to

managed care preferred.

Licensing/Specialized Skills:

● An unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the state of employment

● Independence with regards to clinical discussions and evaluations

● Ability to use pharmaceutical and medical references literature to provide drug

information to health plans, patients and prescribers

● Good interpersonal skills required

Computer/Technical Skills:

● Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to

learn new and complex computer system application

● Digital dexterity e.g. use of computer keyboard

● Knowledge of computer programs

● Telephone skills


Physical and Mental Requirements:

● Individuals may need to stand for excessive amounts of time. Reaching above shoulder

heights, below the waist or lifting product or moving materials throughout the workday.

● Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office

equipment as found in a typical retail pharmacy environment.
