Topweb LLC is a privately-owned commercial printing company that has served its customers for over 43 years, specializing in cold web offset and inkjet digital printing and also provides bindery, inserting, mailing, and delivery services. In addition, to the printing of community, college, and ethnic newspapers but also works closely with clients in public relations, event planning, and the fine arts.
Commercial printing company is seeking a full-time General Press Helper with solid work history, mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to learn in a multi-role capacity. The ideal candidate will have some web offset press experience (Goss, Harris, etc.) This position is responsible for paper handling, press plate handling and maintenance, (pallet movers, forklifts, clamp trucks and strapping machines) and other duties as assigned.
Description of Essential Tasks
• Assist to make ready multi-web, multi-unit offset press for newspaper production.
• Mount printing plates to press cylinders.
• Ability to Remove / Sort and Hang plates accurately (for plate alignment and plate position correct cylinder) on press).
• Visually inspect printed products, adjust, and maintain machine stacker.
• Make all visual checks to ensure print products meet quality standards.
• Verify correct dates and page order.
• Help perform routine and mechanical maintenance on the press and related production equipment.
• Perform weekly cleaning of the press and related equipment.
• Maintain effective safety and housekeeping practices in all areas of production.
• All other duties required.
Press Helper Duties
• Arrive and be ready to work at the scheduled start time.
• Learn skills needed to fulfill this position.
• Maintain a healthy relationship with Supervisors and all co-workers.
• Work wherever help is needed.
• Ability to Jog and stack products.
• Keep work areas clean.
• Use of strapping machine – ability to learn to change strap material.
• Learn adjustment and use of stacker for varying products.
• Assist with press maintenance, washing blankets, cleaning dampening rollers, trays, etc.
• Learn to splice rolls of paper (U-75 and TKS).
• After training and certification, SAFE use and operation of Forklift and Pallet movers.
• Ability to teach your skills to others.
Job Requirements/Specifications
• Work over-night shift varying from Monday thru Sunday. Hours varying from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am (approximately 36-40 hours per week).
• Offset press experience preferred / we will provide training as needed.
• Repetitive arm movements, squatting, bending, and standing approximately 80% of shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Physically capable of climbing ascending stairs and ladders.
