Job Description
The position is a member of the Global Investments, Consolidations, Accounting and Reporting (“GICAR”) team under the direction of the Global Accounting Director. The GICAR team is part of a broader team, the Global Accounting and Control (“GAC”) team that is under the direction of the Global Finance Director & Corporate Controller. The GAC team has various responsibilities including:
• Consolidating and reporting BCG's financial information on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis (management reporting and US GAAP financial statements).
• Establishing and communicating various accounting policies and procedures to finance teams across the globe.
• Supporting and collaborating with finance teams across BCG on technical accounting matters to ensure we are producing top-quality financial data that can be relied upon by decision-makers across the organization
YOU'RE GOOD AT
• Be the go-to person for technical accounting related matters, both – global and local offices. Key technical accounting items include, but are not limited to, acquisition accounting, leasing, foreign currency, consolidations, intercompany loans and investments, fair value measurements, cost-equity method of accounting, VIE accounting, goodwill and intangible assets, impairments, pensions and employee benefits, software capitalization, share-based accounting, derivatives, marketable securities, allowance for credit losses, revenue recognition, etc.
• Research accounting literature and apply technical accounting standards to complex business issues and transactions noted above and document positions in detailed technical accounting memorandums for senior leadership and external auditors
• Monitor FASB, IASB, and other standard setting organizations to identify new standards that BCG will need to adopt and determine the impact of adoption to BCG financial statements. Furthermore, assist and lead in the implementation of new accounting guidance applicable to BCG
• Extensive cross-functional teaming with stakeholders and finance colleagues worldwide, requiring strong US GAAP technical accounting skills and communication skills
• Performing routine reviews of accounting policies, training materials, procedures and internal controls in order to ensure continuous improvement
• Develop an in-depth understanding of BCG's financial reporting including the consolidated US GAAP financial statements as well as management reporting which include key performance metrics and business drivers.
• Review quarterly and annual consolidated US GAAP financial statements and assist more junior team members in coordinating with various cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting (including researching material balance fluctuations and disclosure requirements),
• Review and help prepare executive level deliverables (i.e. slide decks) to present annual US GAAP results to senior leaders including BCG’s CFO and Audit Committee.
• Assist in the management of the global month-end process including coordination with functional finance teams, internal Global teams as well as affiliate offices to ensure all ledgers are closed and submitted in time for Flash and Final monthly reporting. Assist in tracking submissions of monthly packages and sign offs in the system and tackle any ad-hoc monthly close issues that arise.
• Oversee global reconciliation of BCG’s management reporting to US GAAP and to BCG’s distributable profits. Includes analyzing how certain accounting transactions (referred to as other income & expense) impact BCG’s distributable profits and reporting details to senior leaders.
• Review and prepare other income and expense reconciliations and forecasting
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting processes for various areas covered by GICAR (i.e BCG’s portfolio of marketable and non-marketable securities, pension securities, corporate entities, consolidations/eliminations, etc.)
• Work cross-functionally with other teams related to external disclosures; i.e. ensuring appropriate guardrails are in place prior to disclosing confidential and proprietary BCG data for Client RFPs etc.
• Serve as the global subject matter specialist on various accounting topics; prepare and deliver related training to the global finance community
• Review and support material affiliate offices. Includes reviewing monthly reporting packages to ensure compliance with BCG’s accounting policies, analyzing actual results compared to forecasts and prior year results, and reporting local results to senior leaders in Global.
• Review affiliate entity financial statements prior to filing/issuance/sign-off.
• Build strong working relationships with the local office finance teams by providing decision support on a variety of accounting and reporting issues.
• Review various reconciliations between management, US GAAP and statutory reporting provided by local offices.
• Assist GAC leaders on several ad-hoc requests/analyses from senior leadership as well as assist with complex global technical accounting matters under US GAAP and IFRS.
• Create, document, implement, and ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and streamlining in existing activities, make recommendations on improvements and lead implementation.
• Manage cross-functional project teams on a variety of topics including the design and implementation of standardized processes, internal controls and ongoing monitoring activities
• Manage, coach, and develop junior GICAR team members. Manage broader GAC team through critical close processes (i.e. quarterly and year-end close processes).
