We are seeking a Health & Safety Consultant to join our team and contribute to our Melbourne-based and national projects.

You'll assist clients in navigating the contemporary health and safety landscape, adapting to evolving work and organisational settings, and achieving positive outcomes for frontline teams, organizations, stakeholders, and the community.

You will support clients in diverse industries through a range of HSE consulting activities, including, but not limited to:

Contractor management assurance activities (both onsite and desktop) in dangerous goods, construction, renewable energy, government & non-government, defence and other high risk industry settings
Management system evaluation, design, decluttering and implementation support aligned with WHS legislative and recognised best practice standards (ISO 45001, ISO 45003, ISO 14001, ISO 9001)
Applying contemporary WHS management approaches to diverse industry and operational settings
Support our field work supervisors in providing periodic onsite health and safety support and advice in meeting legislative and client obligations.
Technical WHS advisory and consulting support
We work hybrid which means you will have the opportunity to work between our Melbourne CBD office and from home for up to two days per week when not required at site, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.

The role will require the ability to travel for short periods and at times after-hours work (not extensive and suitably remunerated) where required for specific projects.

What you’ll do

Contribute to a thriving team culture dedicated to deliver technical excellence and positive client outcomes
Support our clients in understanding the dangerous goods and chemical handling legislation
Conduct desktop and onsite contractor assurance reviews to support our clients in their desired approach to contractor safety management
Evaluate HSE plans, systems, onsite arrangements across a range of contexts and industry settings (such as construction, renewable energy, government, manufacturing, insurance, defence and more)
Provide in field safety and project support for our Principal Contractor construction activities (predominantly geotechnical site investigations and contaminated land remediation)
Work with diverse range of HSE consultants and partners to explore and deliver contemporary health and safety consulting and compliance solutions.
Research, analyse, and recommend best practice HSE approaches and deliverables, tailored to your clients’ needs
About you

You are likely to have 3+ years of experience in the health and safety consultant profession, or a post-graduate degree in science-chemistry and looking to make a positive impact to health and safety for front line workers and communities.

You will ideally bring the following:

Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and propose effective solutions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders across all organisational levels
Strong academic background and scientific mind able to critically analyse and research complicated solutions to meet clients needs
Prior experience in performing onsite inspections and audits (ISO 45001, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification would be highly advantageous)
Experience advising on contemporary approaches to H&S management, including psycho-social risk management
Understanding or willingness to develop understanding of consulting and project lifecycles, and proactively building client relationships while upholding high service delivery standards
Australian Driver's License
Australian citizen and able to gain an Australian Personal Security Clearance for defence work preferred.
Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a Cert IV in WHS as a minimum. Postgraduate degree in chemistry or similar science highly desirable.
