Health Information Management
The HIM Training & Data Specialist ensures timely, high-quality submission of coded health information to CIHI in accordance with CIHI, MOHLTC, CCO, and hospital guidelines. An expert in ICD10CA and CCI coding in an acute care setting, this role conducts data quality audits, collaborates with stakeholders to correct and prevent errors, and supports system updates. They are also responsible for developing and delivering training for all Health Information Coders, including onboarding and ongoing education for HIM staff.

Qualifications
Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in Health Information Management required
Currently Certified with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) required
Minimum three (3) years of recent health information coder job experience
Handles and maintains patient confidentiality and privacy according to LHSC policies, privacy and legal requirements
Meticulous accuracy and attention to detail, and strong analytical skills
Strong collaboration and interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to provide and receive feedback
Methodical understanding of CIHI indices and comparative reports
Detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology
Proficient coding skills
Expert knowledge of Canadian Coding Standards (CCS), Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) abstracting manuals
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Proficient with Oracle OneChart
Working knowledge of the complicated funding formulas involving QBPs, HIG/CMG, CACS, RIW preferred
Advanced knowledge of 3M Health Data Management (HDM) abstracting system, Codefinder software and CIHI Folio Views (ICD-10-CA, CCI) preferred
Basic knowledge of 3M Report Writer and Clinical Documentation Improvement Software preferred
Formal presentation and facilitation skills preferred
Experience in Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) preferred
Experience developing education materials, conducting training needs assessment and delivering training preferred
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
