CBC Toronto‘s top rated live weekday afternoon show, Here and Now is searching for a permanent host.
The show is dynamic, wide-ranging, and woven into the ever growing fabric of the GTA.
You are deeply invested in the GTA and are committed to ensuring Here and Now is a daily dose of essential information for the GTA. Be that safety on the TTC, how international students are struggling with affordability, or the closure of a neighbourhood diner, you know the show’s goal is to reflect the people of this region.
Your role is clear. You are smart, seasoned, and competitive. You love the GTA and you are deeply curious about it and the people who call it home. You push yourself and your team to respond to breaking news and have the tools and the skills to ensure you can help people navigate the reality of afternoons in the GTA.
You connect easily with every guest and contributor on the program — be they a grieving parent or your traffic reporter. You are equally excited to talk about the latest play on opening night and the latest bombshell report from the Auditor General.
Through the hustle and bustle, you know when to pause to appreciate the little moments that make life in this city special. Toronto’s been called a city of villages. You understand what that means and you transport audiences to the diverse communities that make the city - and Peel, York and Durham - a truly unique place in the world.
You know how to help bring guests’ stories to life. And you understand that people don’t spend their days immersed in news. You love that your job is to help catch them up and help people plan for the hours, the days and the weeks ahead. You aren't phased by the prospect of going live with breaking news and little time to prepare.
You thrive in a team environment, and love to experiment with new ways to meet program and station goals. You know that audience consumption trends change, and work to ensure that Here and Now keeps up with those changes. You collaborate well with your colleagues across all platforms and you will help drive innovation in the station.
As host, you embrace your role as a leader on the team. You are constantly pushing yourself and the team to deliver the most compelling live local offering and you uphold the responsibility you have to deliver on the mission of CBC Toronto, which is to be there for people in the GTA when they need us.
This role requires full time on site presence.
Key Tasks:
