The Canadian Centre for Men and Families is a mental health and social service charitable agency that works to fill critical gaps in men’s services to reduce male suicide, empower fathers undergoing separation and divorce, and help boys and men heal from trauma. The Family Shelter Client and Program Manager will be responsible for client intake, case management and facility operations at the Family Shelter for Men and Children. SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
The Canadian Centre for Men and Families is a mental health and social service charitable agency that works to fill critical gaps in men’s services to reduce male suicide, empower fathers undergoing separation and divorce, and help boys and men heal from trauma. We support, empower and advocate for men before, during and after a crisis, in a safe, open, inclusive and supportive environment.

Since 2014, the agency has opened and operated Centres in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Calgary and Vancouver. The agency, in 2021, set up Toronto’s first Family Shelter for Men and Children who have experienced family violence. This facility is also the Toronto location for a variety of additional publicly available support programs. CCMF AB opened a Family Shelter for Men and Children in Calgary, Alberta in November 2026, Alberta.

The Family Shelter Client and Program Manager will be responsible for client intake, case management and facility operations at the new Family Shelter for Men and Children, as well as the management of programs and services operated out of the space. It is a challenging role that demands patience, diplomacy, compassion and hard work, as well as attention to detail and an ability to multitask. The individual will work as a team leader to create and maintain a safe, respectful, welcoming and supportive space for men and families.

The Family Shelter Client and Program Manager will report to the CCMF Alberta Executive Director. The CCMF Alberta is embedded within the Canadian Centre for Men and Families, a national Canada Revenue Agency accredited charitable organization with a national reporting structure.

About the Canadian Centre for Men and Families

The Canadian Centre for Men and Families is a unique mental health and social service facility serving as a hub of programs for boys, men, fathers and their families. Our Vision focuses on three critical areas:
1. Reduce suicide among men at high-risk through effective intervention programs.
2. Empower fathers undergoing separation or divorce through legal clinics and fathering groups that strengthen the father-child relationship, while working to promote positive social attitudes towards fatherhood.
3. Support men who are experiencing domestic abuse while working with other agencies to improve services.

KEY OPERATIONAL AREAS OF FOCUS

Client Services

Responsible for client case management, including intake and assessment, program registration and referrals to third party resources.
Identify crisis situations and assist in the completion of suicide risk assessments.
Conduct critical incident management, including investigation, debriefing and reporting. Support and lead shelter staff in managing crises and high-risk situations.
Assist with and/or resolve client/stakeholder/donor/funders complaints/issues.
Liaise with the Program Administrator, Program leaders and National Intake to ensure clients are enrolled in appropriate programs.
Build, steward and maintain regular contact with outside agencies for referral to the Family Shelter
Refer clients to appropriate outside agencies for additional support and services.
Program Operations, Delivery and Evaluation


Recruit, train and supervise facility personnel, including placement students, volunteers, and staff.
Responsible for liaising between clients, counselors and program facilitators.
Supervise facility program operations and staff performance.
Responsible for developing and implementing key performance indicators and evaluation systems to ensure that program service delivery goals are met.
Responsible for completing government and funder reports.
Responsible for working with and providing the CCMF Alberta Executive Director and Alberta Board of Directors with a monthly report and to attend Board meetings.
Support the development and enhancement of new and existing programs.
Responsible for all administrative tasks and budget management and monitoring related to the shelter.
The Facility

Oversee the use of the facility, monitoring the overall physical and emotional safety of the space.
Liaise with the contracted Property Manager to address maintenance or other issues related to the physical space.
Responsible for overall day to day operations of the facility including data management.
Ensure that files and shift records are properly maintained and signed off on regular review.
Purchasing and managing inventory, supplies and other goods needed to run facility
Agency Development

Assistance with outreach to other community agencies
Assistance with fundraising and development, under guidance from leadership
QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants are expected to possess most of the qualifications below for consideration for this position.


Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or discipline (Social Work, Public Administration, Social Services, Psychotherapy, Psychology) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum two years relevant experience in clinical social work, Human Services, psychotherapy, psychology
Eligible to provide clinical supervision to practicum students in Social Work, Social Service Work, Psychotherapy, Psychology is a requirement.
Training in suicide and crisis prevention/intervention.
Operational Housing or Shelter experience including emergency shelter programs or transitional housing is an asset.
Personal or professional familiarity with the experiences of boys and men
Trauma informed training.
Knowledge of the relevant Alberta legislation related to the social service sector.
Required to provide a valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Verification and/or Criminal Record Check. These certifications must have been completed within the past 6 months.
Valid certificates in Standard First Aid and CPR and Children’s CPR.
Valid Alberta Driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to manage, negotiate and achieve consensus amongst stakeholders.
Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and emergency situations, alternate dispute resolution techniques and problem-solving.
Demonstrated skills in management, operations and leadership.
