Christchurch City Council employs approximately 3,300 people who are passionate about making a positive difference for our city, communities and environment. We are proud of the impact we make every day and are looking for an experienced People and Capability (P&C) Business Partner to join our team for a 6month fixed term period.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
Our Business Partners work closely with executive and senior leaders across a diverse and complex portfolio, with a focus on organisational and people priorities. Supported by the Advisory function and an ER/IR specialist, Business Partners provide both strategic and operational people advice, enabling leaders to navigate change, build capability and deliver for their teams and the organisation.
Reporting directly to the Head of People and Capability and a key member of the P&C leadership team, this is a senior business partnering role suited to someone who thrives in complexity, ambiguity and pace and can demonstrate proven experience and success working collaboratively within an environment of collective leadership and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with executive and senior leaders to provide trusted, pragmatic advice across the full range of people and capability matters
Support leaders through workforce planning, organisational change and complex employment relations matters
Coach and influence senior leaders to lift people leadership capability and confidence
Work collaboratively within a highperforming P&C team that values collective leadership and shared accountability
Model bestpractice HR business partnering and contribute to the development of P&C capability across the team
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
You will bring:
Significant experience in a senior HR business partnering role, ideally within a large and complex organisation
Demonstrated experience coaching and supporting executive and senior leaders
Strong capability in workforce planning, change management and complex employment relations
A collaborative working style, with proven ability to contribute to and thrive within a collective leadership environment
The ability to coach and support the ongoing development of leaders and People & Capability professionals
Comfort working in environments of ambiguity, complexity and change
Local government experience will be an advantage

Hours of work - Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (Flexible working options may be considered)
Location - This position is primarily based at the Christchurch City Council Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $126,230 to $140,255 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
