Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced HR Coordinator with a strong background in benefits administration and case management. The ideal candidate will bring relevant experience from the construction and oil and gas industries, particularly in project site operations and unionized environments.

Based out of our Calgary Corporate Office, the HR Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Human Resources department. This position will focus primarily on the development, administration, and communication of the company’s employee benefits programs, while also contributing to a wide range of HR functions including WCB claims management, payroll support, policy compliance, and employee onboarding.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, demonstrates sound judgment, and takes a proactive, employee-first approach to HR service and support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, disability, and retirement plans.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries, eligibility, enrollment, and plan changes.
Provide guidance to employees on benefit offerings and resolve concerns related to payroll deductions and benefit claims.
Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure all documentation and dependent information is up to date.
Process and manage Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Assist with investigations related to WCB claims, workplace incidents, and general employee concerns.
Collaborate with HR, payroll, and finance teams to ensure accurate benefit deductions and timely payroll processing.
Coordinate and conduct the new employee onboarding process, including benefit presentations to ensure employee understanding of plan options and enrollment provisions.
Ensure all benefits enrollments are accurate and work closely with accounting to support payroll submissions and both internal and external audits.
Support broader HR functions including progressive discipline, maintaining personnel records, HR data management, and compliance reporting.
Stay up to date with labor legislation, industry regulations, and best practices related to benefits and WCB processes.
Assist with audits and compliance tasks to support HR and management initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, preferred.
3+ years of experience in an HR or benefits-related role, preferably in the construction and/or oil and gas industries.
Strong knowledge of WCB claims management and investigation processes.
Experience in a project site environment within the oil and gas sector is highly preferred.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees and clients.
Basic knowledge of payroll processes and payroll deductions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems is an asset.
High attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
