Purpose of the Role
The HR Associate plays a key role in supporting both administrative and human resources functions at the Toronto Plant. This position serves as a central point of contact for employees at all levels and works closely with plant leadership to ensure smooth execution of HR processes and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll: Oversee the payroll process, ensuring all employee payments are accurate and timely across Canada. Analyze payroll data and identify discrepancies or inefficiencies.
Generate regular reports (e.g., headcount, overtime, payroll).
Manage payroll annual activities (wage increased, vacation balance, yearend work)
Benefits: Support the administration of pension and benefits programs. Provide analysis related to employee benefits.
Assist with year end compensation activities including T4, RL1 and pension reporting.
Data Analysis: Provide sound analysis and recommendations regarding compensation practices, ensuring compliance with wage and labor laws.
Policy Implementation: Collaborate with HR team to develop, implement, and support payroll and HR policies that align with organizational goals and address employee needs.
Reporting: Prepare and present reports on headcount, payroll metrics and benefit utilization to management, assisting in informed decision-making about compensation strategies.
Employee Support: Act as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits, as required.
Working with the Compensation manager and the HR team, provide guidance on HR policy, payroll, and benefits questions.
Assists with employee engagement events such as holiday parties and service award ceremonies.
Assists with community outreach initiatives, as required.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Human Resource Management or a related field is often required. Advanced degrees or certifications in Human Resources (e.g., PHR, SPHR) are preferred.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an Analyst role (or Analyst Intern role) focusing on detailed reporting.
Experience with federal and provincial labour laws, employment taxation and practices across Canada.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, is essential for analyzing payroll data and preparing reports. UKG experience as asset but required.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to identify trends and improve payroll processes. Attention to detail is crucial to ensure accuracy in payroll and benefits administration.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively engage with employees and collaborate with cross-functional teams within the organization.
