Position Overview:
As an coop with the Human Factors and Biomechanics teams, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks related to collision reconstruction, site assessments, literature reviews, and fieldwork. You will support the team in providing expert insight on road safety, accident analysis, and the influence of fatigue on safety and workload.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in analyzing collision reconstructions, focusing on avoidance opportunities, perception response times, and the conspicuity of vulnerable road users (e.g., pedestrians, cyclists).
Support on-site visits to assess lighting levels, sightlines, and visibility.
Review and summarize past reports for case studies, articles, and presentations for social media.
Conduct literature reviews and develop a consolidated reference library.
Assist in fieldwork to identify potential trip, slip, or fall hazards.
Support investigations into the impact of fatigue on safety and workload.
Learning Opportunities:
Gain insight into legal processes involving expert and fact witnesses.
Learn how to determine the most relevant research for specific cases.
Mentorship:
You will receive virtual mentorship from Jason Kumagai, Practice Lead for Human Factors, based in Calgary. Jason has previously mentored Fanshawe placements through his company, Optimal Fit Inc. Additionally, you will have opportunities to collaborate with the Human Factors team in Toronto and the Biomechanics team.
