Employee Relations India Lead role at Northern Trust

Summary:

ER Leadership role - Responsible for advising and consulting business unit management, HR, and employees on various employee relations issues, including employment law, employee counseling, violations of policy, progressive discipline, involuntary terminations, interpretation and administration of corporate human resource policies and procedures. Manages complex employment investigative processes under the direction of attorney(s when necessary. Responsible for identifying, analyzing, avoiding, and resolving employee relations problems via investigative, committee and project work. Designing and drive the implementation of strategic ER initiatives.

Major Duties

1. Conducts investigations into sensitive/complex employment situations; Provides coaching and guidance to more junior Employee Relations staff on the same; provide guidance to business unit management, HR and ER regarding employee counseling, progressive discipline, and involuntary terminations. Consults with management, HR, Legal and Employee Services with respect to findings.

2. Serves as a resource/expert on employee relations including interpreting company and business unit policies, progressive

discipline (for violations of policy), involuntary terminations, safety and security, etc. Ensures that the organization’s work environment is free of harassment and discrimination, and is in compliance with all relevant federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. Consults with management, HR, HR Compliance Officer, Legal and Employee Services regarding same. As subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to HR and management at a high technical level.

3. Responsible for designing and facilitating improvements in policies, practices, procedures based on learnings from investigations. Responsible for pro-active review and analysis of Northern policies; research Northern and industry best practices, procedures, and programs to develop and drive the implementation of strategic initiatives. Facilitates and successfully drives change, including effective stakeholder management.

7. Identifies specific business unit employee relations needs. Works with appropriate HR or business unit representatives to

plan, develop, and implement strategic solutions. Drives stakeholder engagement and change management Acts as a liaison for ER to the business in order to facilitate the smooth delivery of various employee relations initiatives.

8.Mentors and provides guidance and oversight to more junior Employee Relations Consultants on the broad spectrum of Employee Relations. Reviews work of others.

10. Handles more extensive, high-profile work.

11. Strategic in developing, implementing and administering HR programs within functional areas, including driving change management

Knowledge/Skills

Is a technical expert with in-depth knowledge in area of Employee Relations. Strong Knowledge of corporate human resources policies and procedures and applicable human resources laws and regulations. Ability to identify, analyze/evaluate, and resolve ER issues and provide consultation to management. Listening, negotiation, and analytical skills are necessary to counsel and coach managers and employees. Knowledge of business unit strategies, processes and practices in order to identify ER and HR needs and . Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills are required to develop periodic goal and to influence and motivate stakeholders towards the goals set and demonstrated ability to effective drive larger scale change initiatives.

10-15+ years of experience, including extensive demonstrated experience in a HR / ER leadership role
