Position Overview:

AECD (Aboriginal Early Childhood Development) is a program designed to support the health, well-being, and development of Indigenous children and their families. The FRAFCA AECD program initiatives focuses on offering culturally appropriate services and resources to help young children thrive in their formative years, providing support in areas such as education, health, and family support.

In the context of the Early Years department, the AECD program would play a crucial role in ensuring that Indigenous children receive the necessary care and opportunities for development. This includes providing culturally relevant educational materials, health services, and family support programs to create a strong foundation for the children’s future growth and success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Connecting weekly with families & siems by phone to do wellness checks, support access to resources and recreation opportunities;
Transporting Families and Siems to essential medical appointments and other needs; and
Delivering monthly care packages to Families and Siems, prioritizing those who may be more isolated with less access to resources and support systems.
Completing tracking and monthly statistical and narrative reports, as requested by the manager
Connecting with Families and Siems one-on-one to ensure they are receiving and accessing supports and community resources as needed to be individually healthy and well
Coordinating a monthly calendar of recreational and cultural activities and events based on Siems’ interests, and needs to support community engagement
Supporting the day-to-day operational aspect of running programs including set up and clean up of program location, arranging food, and welcoming and registering participants in all AECD groups, including Siems luncheons
Transporting and coordinate transportation to reduce barriers for Families and Siems to get to programming
Facilitating Siems-children connection opportunities through activities and recreation
Completing tracking and monthly statistical and narrative reports, as requested by the manager
Attending and participating in staff and program meetings
Other duties as requested by the manager.
Qualifications and Experience required:

Education in Social Work or other Human Services or combined experience.;
Class 5 Driver’s License, own vehicle, and a clear drivers’ abstract;
Successful candidate will be required to submit a criminal record and Vulnerable person’s check;

Strong organizational skills
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook & Excel programs for case-management and reporting purposes
The Family, Siems & Community Support Worker will possess a minimum of a diploma in human services and 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience working with young families with children 0-6 years old and experience working with Indigenous Elders.
Knowledge of Indigenous communities, organizations and service providers within the Circle 5 area (Surrey/Delta/ White Rock Region), land based protocols and cultural integrity
Demonstrated cultural competency and understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures, traditions, and knowledge of socio-economic barriers, family dynamics, and history of colonization.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and ambiguity.
Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict management skills.
Ability to multi-task and work with the demands of a diverse team environment and cross-cultural setting.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Experience:

Experience with children: 2 years (required)
Microsoft Excel: 2 years (required)
