Job description, work day and responsibilities
The role of Library Coach is a critical part in supporting and guiding teachers, librarians, and principals to adopt innovative approaches for improving children's reading habits. The successful candidate will work closely with the Sr. Literacy Program Operations Officer/Literacy Program Operations Officer/Literacy Program Operations Associate to achieve this goal.
Key Responsibilities:
• Program Understanding and Support
• Develop an in-depth understanding of Room to Read's Literacy program design and ensure its effective implementation across assigned project schools.
• Provide comprehensive support and conduct training programs for teachers and librarians.
• Prepare regular reports on program progress to the supervisor.
• Conduct reflective analysis of program design and implementation, focusing on progress towards outcomes, and suggest solutions.
• School Visits and Library Setup
• Visit schools daily, except on days of official travel and leave, to monitor program implementation.
• Assist in setting up the library, including site verification (if necessary), community meetings, requisitioning, and coordinating delivery of furniture, books, and stationery.
• Collaborate with the school to enhance minor improvements to the library space (e.g., painting).
• Training and Implementation
• Participate in regular teacher and librarian training sessions related to Literacy program implementation.
• Maintain good library management practices and systems, modeling them for designated librarians (book leveling, reading activities, check-out system, etc.).
• Ongoing observation, demonstration, and coaching of teachers and librarians in implementing the library period and reading activities.
• Family & Community Engagement
• Support and participate in Family & Community Engagement activities such as literacy events, parent meetings, and community engagements.
• Coordinate the formation and training of Child Management Committees.
• Monitoring, Data Collection, and Reporting
• Regularly provide updates on progress to the principal/headmaster and coach them on supporting teachers and ensuring long-term sustainability of literacy outcomes within the school.
• Collect data (regular and periodic) to ensure high quality.
• Analyze school-level data regularly collected during visits, identify corrective actions, and incorporate them into school planning.
• Effectively utilize Home as a Learning Space material through home visits and community visits.
• Organize Library reading camps in school holidays at the school and community levels.
• Attend review meetings at block/district/state/national levels as required and submit timely programmatic and financial reports.
• Support donor visits through project demonstrations and presentations.
• Draft best practices and lessons learned and share them with the Literacy Program team.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in education or social sciences or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience, particularly in development projects.
• Teaching experience at the primary level is preferred.
• Knowledge of education and language development/literacy.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player.
• Basic project management and analytical skills.
