Job Description
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated and passionate Intermediate Interior Designer to complement our Calgary office, where we are involved in exciting work across a range of building types including commercial, mixed-use, retail, industrial, hospitality, public buildings, and healthcare.
You will work closely with the Senior Interior Designer and/ or Project Manager (PM), or act as Project Manager, to complete interior design and technical assignments. May be responsible for contract administration.
Here’s what you’ll be doing at Kasian:
Plan
• Work with Senior Designer or PM to create work plans, drawing lists, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirements
• Review and monitor project scope and initiate corrective actions in cooperation with the Senior Designer or PM
Deliver
• Contribute to the Kasian design process including the creation of design concepts, generation of presentation material, and required submission documentation
• Produce successful design and contract documentation in alignment with Kasian’s standards of quality and client program and budget needs
• Prepare outline specifications and assist in detailed project specification development
• Participate and assist in design/ production meetings
• Participate in client presentations
• Coordinate with project consultants and construction manager
• Coordinate and apply for building and development permits
• Work with PM and authorities having jurisdiction to interpret and conform to codes and bylaws
• Meet project criteria and deliver scheduled tasks
• Build relationships with clients through working with PM to meet program and budget requirements
• Properly maintain project records
• Keep current with innovative and forward-thinking design including research on materials and products
Review
• Conduct code and shop drawing reviews
• Review project quality and monitor budget and schedule on an ongoing basis
• Manage project performance issues and work to resolve problems
Here’s what you bring to Kasian
• Diploma or Degree in Interior Design
• 5 to 10 years of interior design experience
• NCIDQ certification is an asset
• Strong knowledge of graphics software (Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Suite)
• Demonstrated design skills, knowledge of design principles and elements, and creativity
• Understanding of construction and construction administration process
• Knowledge of applicable building codes and by-laws
• Permit application knowledge is an asset
• Excellent time management and teamwork skills
• Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to present ideas to clients
