The Opportunity
The IT Architecture Practise Lead is accountable for building and maturing a modern enterprise architecture capability that enables consistent, high quality technology design across the organisation. The role is accountable for establishing the standards, governance, operating model and ways of working that enable architecture teams to operate efficiently at enterprise scale.
A key mandate of the role is to transform the architecture function toward an AIFirst model. This means embedding AI-enabled tools, automation and modern engineering practices into the architecture lifecycle so that architecture artefacts, analysis and design activities can be produced with significantly greater speed, insight and consistency. The goal is to enable architecture outcomes to be delivered at the speed and scale required by modern digital and network platforms.
The role works closely with the Head of IT Enterprise Architecture and domain architecture leaders to ensure architecture practices remain pragmatic, scalable and deeply embedded within delivery teams.

Architecture Capability Development
Continuously mature the IT architecture capability across IT and network domains.
Define architecture roles, competencies and career pathways.
Develop architecture talent through mentoring, coaching and capability uplift programs.
Establish and lead a strong architecture community of practice to drive collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Embed architecture practices within engineering and product delivery teams.
AI-First Architecture Operating Model
Transform the architecture function to operate using an AI-First approach.
Identify opportunities to use AI to accelerate architecture analysis, design, documentation and governance.
Implement AI-enabled tooling that supports architecture modelling, pattern generation, documentation and design reviews.
Drive automation of architecture artefacts, design patterns and knowledge repositories.
Enable architects to operate at significantly higher productivity through AI-augmented ways of working.
Architecture Governance, Standards & Patterns
Define and maintain enterprise architecture standards, principles, reference architectures and reusable patterns.
Operate architecture governance processes including Architecture Review Boards and design authorities.
Ensure architecture governance remains lightweight and enables delivery speed.
Define clear architecture artefacts required across the solution lifecycle.
Maintain a central repository of architecture assets, standards and reusable components.
Architecture Ways of Working, Tooling & Automation
Establish modern architecture tooling and repositories that support scalable architecture management.
Define consistent methods for capturing architecture decisions, standards and designs.
Introduce automation across architecture workflows including documentation, review and design validation.
Leverage AI-enabled engineering tools to improve architecture productivity and quality.
Establish metrics and reporting to measure architecture effectiveness and adoption.
Architecture Community & Engineering Alignment
Build strong partnerships with engineering, platform and product leaders to embed architecture practices within delivery teams.
Promote collaborative architecture practices across product squads and engineering teams.
Ensure architecture practices balance delivery speed with long-term architectural integrity.
Facilitate knowledge sharing across IT, Network and platform engineering communities.
Continuously improve architecture maturity through industry benchmarking and modern architecture practices.
What you'll bring to the role
Strong experience building and operating enterprise architecture practices in complex environments.
Experience implementing modern architecture governance, standards and reference architectures.
Strong understanding of AI-assisted engineering and opportunities to apply AI within architecture practices.
Experience working in federated architecture models across multiple technology domains.
Strong stakeholder engagement and influence across engineering and technology leadership.
Ability to simplify complex technology landscapes into clear architecture guidance.
Experience implementing modern architecture approaches including cloud-native, API-first and event-driven architectures.
Architecture certifications such as TOGAF are desirable.
