The Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering, Radiology Equipment Specialist (RES) provides supervision of the technical staff in preventative maintenance, repair and calibration of medical imaging equipment, equipment installations, and other functions within the DTS-Bio-Medical Engineering Department at Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH).
Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering, Radiology Equipment Specialist (RES) at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:


Oversees the day-to-day department operations for the BMET RES team, including preventative maintenance, testing, repair, calibration, and documentation.
Maintains scheduling of BMET RES team members.
Manages recruitment, evaluations, and disciplinary action of BMET RES team members.
Tests and calibrates medical imaging devices prior to use in patient care areas (preventive maintenance).
Troubleshoots medical imaging devices in a clinical setting and/or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance).
Evaluates, selects, installs, and inspects new trial and/or demonstration medical imaging equipment prior to use (incoming inspection).
Ensures compliance with all regulatory processes necessary (i.e. CMS, FDA, NRC, GMP, NJDOH, etc).
Supports integration with medical imaging software/hardware systems (i.e. PACS Administrator, Integration Specialist, etc.).
Conducts investigations and provides feedback related to patient care medical device incidents in accordance with HMH policy.
Educates the proper use, care and maintenance of medical devices.
Reviews technical manuals and educates the team for understanding.
Maintains comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities, documenting each action thoroughly.
Troubleshoots medical device networks.
Maintains inventory or repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.
Orders repair parts and/or components and supplies as required using HMH ERP system(s).
Maintains incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance.
Couriers devices or arranges transportation for medical imaging devices maintained by BMET RES as needed to ensure safe operation or storage of devices.
Actively stays informed and knowledgeable about changes, enhancements, and new features and versions related to the medical imaging equipment and machines used.
Attends on the job training as well as offsite and/or out of state training that will require travel and may include one or more overnight stays.
Travels to other HMH locations (i.e., hospitals, urgent care, primary care, etc.) as needed.
Manages compliance with but not limited to response and resolution time as determined by departmental SLA.
Monitors radiology equipment support contracts for performance and cost savings opportunities.
Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6.0 hours a day.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
BS degree in (Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology) with 8 years BMET RES work experience, or AS degree in (Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology) with 10 years BMET RES work experience, or completion of U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program with 10 years fulltime BMET RES work experience, or High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs with 12 years BMET RES work experience.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of electronic/mechanical devices with a focus on medical imaging devices.
Demonstrates understanding and can communicate the use of all patient care medical imaging devices.
Demonstrates ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation used to support medical imaging devices.
Demonstrates understanding of computerized maintenance management systems.
Demonstrates ability to access public FDA 510k information about patient care medical devices.
Demonstrates knowledge of device recalls and their purpose.
Exhibits understanding and supports customer service principles.
Familiar with the operations and environment that they support (hospital, clinic, etc.).
Has advanced experience in their assigned clinical environment.
Unrestricted ability to attend both on the job training as well as offsite and/or out of state training requiring travel that can include one or more overnight stays.
Demonstrates understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates knowledge of various types of patient care medical equipment along with associated risks.
Demonstrates understanding of patient care medical equipment, radiographic equipment, laboratory equipment, and network equipment.
Demonstrates basic terminology used in project management.
Demonstrates knowledge of current technology and its uses as it relates to healthcare.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
AS Degree, or higher, with 10 years fulltime BMET RES work experience or at least 12 years full time experience in a hospital environment or 12 years full time experience working in a hospital setting for a medical equipment manufacturer.
Experience leading other BMET RES team members.
Extensive knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, NRC, NJDOH, and etc. standards.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid motor vehicle operators license.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
