Summary of Position

Under supervision of the Finance Director, the Junior Accountant is responsible for assisting with the daily bookkeeping, accounting, and finance needs of the organization.

Duties include but are not limited to monthly bank reconciliations, contract/grant accounting, accounts payable/receivable, coordinating program department’s fiscal processes, and general ledger journal entries.

This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Finance Director and works closely with a Staff Accountant.

Status:  Full-time; regular; non-exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Process custodial account transactions; perform monthly cash counts and prepare bank reconciliations.
Review and process vendor invoices; assist with maintaining the vendor database.
Reconcile credit card and petty cash transactions; route supporting receipts for workflow approval.
Record manual transactions in the general ledger and ensure accurate coding.
Assist with preparation of contract / grant reimbursement submissions; support budget tracking efforts.
Organize and maintain program expense vouchers in compliance with internal controls.
Calculate and distribute bi-weekly program stipends.
Coordinate cash pickups and deliveries between the bank and program departments.
Maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.
Support audit readiness by compiling and organizing required financial documentation.
Assist the accounting team with special projects and ad hoc financial tasks.
Digitally archive financial records and ensure proper documentation retention.
Perform other related finance duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field – or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience – required.
Prior knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping, with a focus on accounts payable, preferred.
Experience working in a nonprofit organization, especially in supportive housing or human services, is strongly preferred.
Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and IRS regulations is preferred
