The Energy Operation division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans. In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.


The Pricing and Analysis Unit is responsible for the accurate and timely valuation of Crown’s share of royalties and allowances for conventional crude oil, natural gas and products for the Province of Alberta. The team is also responsible for effective execution of policies, programs and initiatives in support of Energy Operations and Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC).

Under the direction of the Team Lead and Manager in the Pricing and Analysis (P&A) business unit, the Junior Analyst plays a key role in collecting, processing, and verifying essential market information. This position supports the calculation of Reference Prices used in valuing the Crown’s royalty share of natural gas and products, as well as validating transportation costs incurred for Crown conventional crude oil. You will work closely with industry representatives to ensure compliance with regulations and operational guidelines.


As a Junior Analyst, you will manage data collection and verification efforts, ensuring timely and accurate submission from external stakeholders. Your responsibilities include investigating discrepancies, applying key regulatory requirements, and maintaining compliance with the Natural Gas Royalty Regulation, Part 4 of the Natural Gas Marketing Act, and the Petroleum Marketing Regulation. You will also contribute to broader team initiatives, such as process improvements and cross-functional projects.


Key Responsibilities:
Collect, analyze, and verify industry data for reference price calculations.
Ensure compliance with legislative and operational requirements in royalty valuation.
Investigate discrepancies in reporting and resolve issues with industry representatives.
Validate transportation costs and reconcile monthly invoices for Crown conventional crude oil.
Provide client service, answering complex inquiries related to regulatory and royalty processes.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to team-wide activities.

Qualifications
Two-year diploma in a related field; (Business Administration, commerce, Accounting, Finance Communications, Economics, Geology, Engineering or other related field), no experience required. Equivalencies may be considered.


The following will be considered assets:.
Work experience in Accounting operations in Oil and Gas industry.
Work experience related to Crude Oil marketing and transportation.
Experience related to Natural Gas Crown Royalty accounting
An intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management
