Junior Controller
ModernMD operates 11 urgent care centers across New York City, delivering high-quality, compassionate care to underserved communities. As a mission-driven and fast-growing healthcare provider, we’re expanding our finance team with a hands-on, detail-oriented Junior Controller.
Position Summary
The Junior Controller will play a critical role in managing core accounting operations, with a focus on accounts payable, financial reporting, month-end close, and budgeting. The role includes coordinating with and supervising an offshore accounting team that handles clerical tasks. This individual must have strong accounting fundamentals, solid systems knowledge, and a proactive mindset. The role is fully remote and reports to the Chief Strategy Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy
Manage the full accounts payable cycle, with transaction-level support from an offshore team
Supervise and review the offshore accounting team's work related to invoice processing, coding, and vendor payments
Lead and support month-end and year-end close activities
Assist in preparing internal financial statements and reports
Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Manage cash flow tracking and reporting
Ensure proper financial controls and assist with audit readiness
Identify and implement process improvements within the accounting function
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or high-growth environment
Experience with QuickBooks is required
Experience with Ramp is highly preferred
Strong knowledge of accounts payable workflows and general ledger accounting
Prior experience managing or working with offshore accounting teams is a plus
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficient in Excel
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote team setting
Healthcare experience is a plus but not required
