At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.


Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position

Are you an enthusiastic and caring teacher who loves inspiring learners and building strong connections?

We're looking for a Kaiako with primary teaching experience — particularly across Years 4–8 — to join our Northern Region team, based in our Auckland tari (office).

Please note: this role includes mandatory office days at our Queen Street location.

In this role, you'll:

Support ākonga to engage deeply in learning that reflects their goals, passions, and interests
Facilitate regular huinga ako (both online and face-to-face) that foster connection, wellbeing, and personalised learning
Provide meaningful feedback and guidance to help ākonga grow in confidence and capability
Work collaboratively with colleagues and whānau to design flexible, creative learning experiences
Show curiosity and openness to learning te reo Māori and growing your bicultural practice

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You'll bring:

New Zealand teacher registration and a current practising certificate
Experience teaching within the primary years (Years 1–8) and a solid understanding of the NZ Curriculum
A warm, inclusive approach to teaching and supporting ākonga
Confidence using digital tools to connect and engage learners
A collaborative spirit, a positive outlook, and genuine enthusiasm for teaching and learning
