Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high-quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health, and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Communications Advisor who is looking to gain meaningful experience in our Strategy Team!
The Strategy team is responsible for supporting the strategic direction setting for Te Puni Kōkiri. This team provides the Executive Leadership Team with relevant insights and context to inform strategic decision-making and facilitates strategy development processes to make those decisions.
Additionally, the team will also be responsible for the delivery of the communications and engagement strategy both internally and externally across a wide range of channels. They play an important role in engaging media, particularly Māori media and external stakeholders (including iwi, public, and public sector communications leaders) to support the delivery and achievement of Te Puni Kōkiri kaupapa.

The Senior Advisor, Communications plays an important role in supporting the Manager Strategy to deliver professional communications services and products to various client groups across the organisation.
Given the diverse nature of Te Puni Kōkiri's work, the Senior Advisor will have the opportunity to provide communications support on a variety of projects related to Whānau Taurikura - Thriving Whānau.
The role reports to the manager of the Strategy Team and is based in the National office in Wellington.
You will:
Contribute to the development and production of high-quality communications.
Provide effective management of media services for Te Puni Kōkiri.
Support the strengthening and maintenance of our brand.
Contribute to the development of communications capability across Te Puni Kōkiri.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Exceptional relationship management skills. Can quickly build in-person rapport with a range of stakeholders.
Successful experience operating within a Public Service environment with knowledge and understanding of the Machinery of Government and Policy process.
Proficiency with Microsoft packages especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Presentation skills and the personal credibility to be able to speak with authority on behalf of Te Puni Kōkiri.
Strong knowledge and understanding of te ao Māori and are comfortable working in an environment where tikanga is observed.
A high level of commitment to detail, quality, thoroughness, and delivery.
Demonstrated experience in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
