Job description
• On-site position at an Alpha School campus (locations: Chicago, IL
• Miami, FL
• Palo Alto, CA
• Piedmont, CA
• San Francisco, CA
• Santa Monica, CA
• Lake Forest, CA
• Greenwich, CT
• Boston, MA; relocation assistance available)
• $120,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
• School-year calendar with predictable, structured hours
The most supportive action you can take for a 6-year-old who earned 99% is to withhold calling it 100%. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this isn't the right fit. If it feels self-evident—if you believe children rise to meet the expectations you set—this role is designed for you.
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Academic learning happens through adaptive software that adjusts to each student's level and progresses at their individual pace. There are no classroom lectures. No identical worksheets distributed to 25 children. Instead, each student advances through personalized learning applications while you, as their Guide, support them through the challenging moments: maintaining focus when difficulty increases, working through frustration, and celebrating genuine mastery rather than mere participation.
Your day begins with motivation sessions: analyzing each student's progress within their learning applications, establishing daily objectives, and identifying the right motivational approach for each child. That might mean a leaderboard competition, school currency rewards, or a direct conversation about their potential. Afternoons transition to life skills workshops where you facilitate instruction in public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback through project-based, hands-on experiences. You'll conduct mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) where students prove they've absorbed the skill, not simply attended the lesson. Throughout, you're guiding emotional regulation, resilience, and critical thinking with consistent boundaries and care.
Guides who excel here advance to Lead Guide positions, mentoring teams of Guides while continuing direct work with their own student cohort. The progression from "I transformed these 15 children's trajectories" to "I'm developing the team that transforms hundreds" is tangible and clearly defined. If traditional education never appealed to you but you believe what occurs between ages 4 and 7 determines everything afterward—apply.
What You Will Be Doing
• Facilitating daily motivation sessions with K-2 students: analyzing Coachbot analytics, establishing individualized objectives, and applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, 1-on-1 coaching) to achieve 100% goal completion
• Leading one-hour life skills workshops focused on public speaking, concentration, giving/receiving feedback, and time management—all experiential and project-based, adhering to Alpha's curriculum playbook
• Guiding emotional regulation, resilience, and problem-solving in partnership with Reading Specialists who manage literacy instruction
• Conducting Test2Pass mastery assessments where students prove they've internalized each life skill prior to advancement
• Cultivating authentic relationships with each student by understanding their interests, capabilities, and challenges so your coaching is individualized, not formulaic
What You Won’t Be Doing
• Presenting lectures or delivering traditional academic instruction. Students acquire academic knowledge through adaptive applications, not through you.
• Creating curriculum independently. Alpha supplies the life skills curriculum and lesson frameworks; your role is to execute them effectively.
• Advancing students who haven't shown mastery. If they achieved 99%, you guide them to 100%.
• Supervising children passively on computers. Every moment is organized around active coaching, motivation, and competency development.
• Handling parent communications or campus-wide logistics. Those fall under the Campus Lead's responsibility.
