Job Summary:
The Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the kitchen staff in all aspects of food preparation and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. This role includes washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, preparing basic ingredients, and supporting the chefs with various tasks. The Kitchen Helper ensures that the kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently, contributing to a high-quality dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation:
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables and fruits.
• Measure and prepare ingredients according to the instructions of the chef or kitchen staff.
• Assist in preparing simple dishes, salads, and garnishes as directed.
• Help in portioning and packaging food items for service or storage.
• Kitchen Cleaning and Maintenance:
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and tools regularly according to health and safety standards.
• Ensure that floors are swept and mopped, and waste is disposed of properly.
• Maintain cleanliness in food storage areas, including refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage.
• Support Kitchen Operations:
• Assist with organizing and storing kitchen supplies and ingredients.
• Refill and restock kitchen stations with necessary supplies during service.
• Assist chefs and cooks during busy periods by fetching ingredients, tools, or equipment.
• Help with plating and assembling dishes as needed.
• Waste Management:
• Collect and dispose of kitchen waste, including food scraps and packaging materials.
• Sort recyclables and manage waste bins according to kitchen policies.
• Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials, such as oil and cleaning chemicals.
• Health and Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
• Wear appropriate kitchen attire, including hairnets, gloves, and aprons, to maintain hygiene.
• Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the kitchen supervisor.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
• Communicate effectively with team members to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
• Assist in training new kitchen helpers or temporary staff as required.
Key Qualifications:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is an advantage.
• Experience:
• Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Skills:
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
• Good physical stamina, with the ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
• Basic understanding of kitchen operations and food preparation.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
