Job Description
A kitchen helper, also known as a kitchen assistant or porter, helps the culinary team and waitstaff in a restaurant to provide good customer service. Their main responsibilities include:
• Washing dishesWashing dishes, utensils, cooking equipment, and cutting boards, and putting them away
• Preparing ingredientsWashing, peeling, cutting, and slicing ingredients for the cook
• Maintaining the kitchenSweeping and mopping floors, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring the kitchen is clean and safe to work in
• Other tasksHelping with unloading food supplies from delivery trucks, packing take-out orders, removing garbage, and storing food items according to food safety standards
Kitchen helpers may also assist chefs with basic food preparation, serve meals to customers, and ensure that kitchen sanitation standards are met. They should be able to follow health and safety regulations and understand basic food
