Hiring Unit:
Department of Microbiology and Immunology
Number of Positions available:
2 positions - up to 12-16 hours per week, per position
Position Summary:
Assists in performing laboratory tests and experiments such as PCR reactions and agarose gels.
Catalogs laboratory material and or equipment.
Collects and enters data into established inventory databases. Updates manuals/datasheets as required.
Distributes and tracks items, such as laboratory shipments. A log to track these items may be required.
Maintains lab work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbents may be asked to perform some elements of Lab Helper level “A” tasks in addition to those listed above.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
A minimum high school diploma.
McGill Undergraduate students in life sciences programs preferred. Please attach a copy of your proof of enrollment letter(s) for Fall 2026/Winter 2026 academic year. If you currently hold a study permit, please attach a copy of your study permit as well.
Laboratory safety and biosafety training preferred- must be willing to take this training if not already certified.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Strong attention to detail, organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Able to follow procedures and instructions.
