Job Description
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I in the FMC Chemistry department, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to performing, recording, and reporting diagnostic procedures in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures to ensure high‑quality, accurate, and timely results. You will identify unusual or abnormal findings and take appropriate action, including escalation to on‑call support when required. You will perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities. You will operate, maintain, and perform troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal function. You will assist with maintaining department supply inventory and re‑ordering as required. You may participate in the training and orientation of staff. You will respond appropriately to non‑conforming events and unusual situations and will be expected to independently assess and manage complex issues during the night shift when senior staff are not physically present. This position requires working in a minimized staffing model overnight, consisting normally of two MLTs and one MLA. As such, a high level of self‑sufficiency, sound judgment, and confidence in independent decision‑making is essential.

You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Familiarity with Epic Connect Care or other laboratory information systems is required to support efficient workflow and documentation. Successful candidate must be able to work independently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume laboratory environment with limited onsite support overnight, while also collaborating effectively with a small team. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality are essential. Must demonstrate ability to independently prioritize workload, troubleshoot technical and operational issues, and make timely, critical decisions in the absence of senior staff.
