Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Law Firm Accountant to join our team. As a permanent, full-time position, this role requires a strong background in accounting in a law firm environment.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and cost control principles, as well as experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities:
Oversee the financial operations of the law firm, including the preparation of budgets and financial reports, and the management of bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are in accordance with GAAP.
Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors as necessary.
Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting.
Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services firm.
Proficiency in the use of computer programs for accounting, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and other standard business applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent problem-solving ability.
High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
Strong work ethic and the ability to work extended hours during critical periods.
