Job Description

The Ld Database Administrator provides reliable, cost-effective, & secure enterprise-wide support for business-critical production & non-production databases.

S/he is responsible for the Standards & design of physical data storage, maintenance, access, security administration, parameter configuration, logical & physical database design based on requirements.

S/he optimizes database access & allocates resources for optimum configuration, performance, & cost.

Principal Accountabilities:
• Acts as the primary liaison for customers communicating with the Database Administration group. Ensures customer satisfaction by consistently using database administration resources to meet published SLAs.

Creates release plan for data implementation and retention.
• Builds and tests data propagation across the organization based on data capture, data processing, reporting and analytics, data backup and recovery, data access/conflict resolution

and data integrity needs while minimizing redundancy. Creates release plan for integration artifacts.
• Consults with business area management regarding application alternatives, performance, security, software usage, capacity planning, and backup procedures.

Determines the optimal way to organize data for a given application. Recommends reusable components to reduce design and delivery time and achieve economy of scale.
• Defines and documents an enterprise data model to support both OLTP and OLAP.
• Implements database changes resulting from the ticketing system while maintaining database standards for security, naming, and complexity.

Involved in the coordination, routing, communication, & escalation of all database work stemming from the Database Work Order System.
• Maintains storage capacity management including data classification, storage tiering, RAID, clustering, virtualization, etc.
• Performs database administration tasks as necessary to maintain 100% uptime, consistent performance, and 50% headroom. Determines the type and quantity of data, who will access it, and how.
• Provides on-boarding support, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to new employees and/or consultants, both off-shore and local.
• Anticipates potential changes in performance based on knowledge and experience both in terms of database and global view of the enterprise. Understands and utilizes performance concepts required for various database components. Effectively identifies, isolates, and corrects database performance issues. Evaluates the effectiveness of the decision's outcome in comparison to expected results from alternatives.
• Applies in-depth knowledge and expertise to create, implement, and guide others in complex database structures and meet defined SLA. Performs capacity planning, implements alternative storage methods, and reduces both hardware footprints and licensing costs.
• Assesses data architecture's portability, performance, availability, reusability, reliability, and scalability. Creates and maintains architecture describing the design of the physical implementation of the integration infrastructure, based on the logical architecture and business requirements. Ensures the data architecture meets all the aforementioned requirements.
• Collaborates with business owners and provides expertise in the translation of business process to logical design. Creates, implements, and reviews complex database structures. Considers the consequences of each alternative with all stakeholders.
• Demonstrates responsibility in the creation of logical and physical database structures, proposing optimal DR/HA architecture and implementing a reliable, optimized database design to meet required SLAs.
• Discovers and initiates database administration tasks as necessary to maintain 100% uptime, consistent performance, and 50% headroom. Searches constantly for opportunities to improve performance.
• Documents features and strategy, ensures SOX compliance, and adheres to CME Group policy and audit requirements.
• Identifies strategy to improve database performance by implementing best practices and standards, eliminating fallouts, solving problems, mentoring junior staff, and creating consistency across all applications and databases. Develops programming and development standards.

Skills & Software Requirements:
• MS SQL DBA - Proficient in SQLServer Management studio, IDERA, SCOM, DMP, Window clustering, Log shipping, SRDF, mirroring, PerfMon, and SQL Profiler
• Experienced with alternate DB technologies like Postgres/Cassandra/Mongo/MySQL/ Cloud Databases are good to have, storage level replication, experienced in PowerShell and Python is mandatory.
• Experience is working with cloud technologies and also Hands on experience with DevOps tools like Terraform/GCP or Azure or AWS/Jenkins/GIT etc is mandatory.
