NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is: Monday - Friday (flexible).

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Maternity and Gynaecology Services within NHS GGC are provided across three large maternity units with obstetric led labour suites – at Queen Elizabeth University hospital (QEUH), Princess Royal Maternity (PRM) and Royal Alexandra hospital (RAH) in Paisley. The three inpatient gynaecology wards provide both emergency and planned care. We also provide a wide range of gynaecology outpatient services across different sites including Stobhill hospital and the New Victoria Hospital. Maternity and Gynaecology have a shared management and professional leadership structure within the Women and Children’s Directorate of NHS GGC. We are delighted to advertise for this new clinical safety post focussing on gynaecology services. You will be a registered nurse with substantial experience in a relevant area of women’s healthcare. This role is part of a wider supportive Women’s health quality and safety team. The post holder will work closely with clinical safety midwifery colleagues, focussing particularly on gynaecology risk incidents.

The post holder will:

Prepare for local and GGC wide gynaecology clinical safety meetings, where clinical risk incidents are discussed. This will include the preparation of detailed and accurate briefing notes and timelines, summarising the events to be discussed, attend and contribute to weekly gynaecology and maternity AEOG (Adverse events oversight group) meetings, where Serious adverse event reviews (SAERS) and Local adverse event reviews (LAERs) are commissioned, terms of reference are agreed and recommendations from completed reviews are finalised. They will also assist in the organisation of multi-disciplinary review teams for SAER reviews and support the chair before, during and after the meeting to coordinate the writing up of the report, develop timelines for gynaecology SAERs and LAERs and for local safety meetings, ensure that the gynaecology nursing and medical teams are aware of recommendations from briefing notes, SAERs and LAERs. On occasion providing insight and learning sessions for the gynaecology MDT about SAER outcomes and themes emerging from clinical risk reviews, work with the lead nurse for gynaecology, practice development and medical colleagues, to devise and deliver appropriate educational responses from clinical risk reviews, develop and support maintenance of the Gynaecology outcomes dashboard, contribute to national and local reporting and audits, including cancer audits

Organisational position:

The successful candidate will be required to support a culture of continuous improvement through implementation of recommendations from risk review. You will be a registered nurse, with live NMC registration. You will have evidence of continuing professional development and be educated to degree level. The postholder should have a minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant area. You will be confident and have a good grasp of IT and be able to write accurate professional reports fluently.

The interview will take place on Tuesday 3rd March.
