Job Description
As a Lead Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to guide and grow a project team of engineers. You will manage projects from concept through engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and the close-out of new and modified high voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities within the power sector. Your role will involve leading a multi-disciplinary team to ensure successful project delivery while meeting client expectations.
• Prepare and update financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports following the Client's Project Management process, either weekly, monthly, or as needed.
• Facilitate project meetings, ensuring minutes are captured and disseminated to all team members.
• Develop strong client relationships to clearly understand and meet expectations; collaborate with the broader Jacobs team as needed to cultivate positive client interactions, addressing any concerns effectively.
• Oversee project monitoring to mitigate risks and adhere to budget, schedule, scope, and quality, identifying and addressing risks as they arise.
• Manage project communications, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries from client management or support teams.
• Alert project stakeholders immediately if the project is projected to exceed approved budgets or schedules, or if significant risks or issues are identified.
• Conduct project administrative activities, including handling purchase and change orders, verifying work statuses, processing unvouchered liabilities, and reviewing invoices.
• Coordinate engineering design development, submission of drawings, and oversee the quality review process.
• Address emergent field issues effectively while ensuring compliance with all codes, environmental, and safety regulations.
• Track and manage compliance related to project requirements, both regulatory and non-regulatory.
• Assist in resolving siting/permitting, municipal, and abutter issues as they arise.
• Oversee contractor sourcing processes, including issuing RFPs, conducting bid analysis, and providing award recommendations.
• Play a key role in identifying and pursuing business opportunities with both existing and potential new clients.
• Support Jacobs' operational and business development teams by contributing to proposals and other materials for new business opportunities.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management/business degree.
• At least 7 years of experience managing electric power projects involving high voltage transmission lines, cables, and/or substations.
• Specific experience in managing and delivering projects for utilities involving high voltage power transmission, distribution, and/or substation facilities.
• Demonstrated experience in all project phases from early authorization and concept to commissioning and close out.
• Understanding of multi-disciplinary project delivery teams, including electrical, civil, structural, environmental, and contractor scopes of work.
• Familiarity with project control and cost control software used in the utility sector, as well as the capability to learn client system software as needed.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively lead cross-functional teams at all organizational levels, including interactions with third-party engineers and contractors.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational abilities.
• Skilled in creating and delivering compelling presentation materials.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective proposal development, negotiation, and consensus-building abilities.
• Familiar with general project management processes within the utility industry.
• Willing to travel to project sites and attend client meetings as required.
Desired Skills:
• PMP Certification.
• Experience in Program Management or Project Management directly related to HV Substations and Transmission Lines for Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) in the U.S.
• Engineering degree and FE or PE License.
• Construction, commissioning, and start-up experience.
