Make a difference in the lives of Albertans by joining the team at Peter Lougheed Centre Unit 3+. Unit 3+ is a highly acute unit that services medical teaching patients, pulmonary patients, and chronically ventilated patients. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) can expect to work to their full scope of practice. Unit 3+ has adopted initiatives that are outlined in the CoACT model of care. Full-scope, collaborative and patient/family centered care are practiced here. Unit 3+ manages all of the pre and post lung transplant patients and is the dedicated unit to manage chronically ventilated patients and patients requiring treatment for Pulmonary Hypertension in Southern Alberta. Unit 3+ specializes in alternative forms of ventilation including Mouthpiece Ventilation and Diaphramatic Pacing. It is also the unit where patients with complex Tuberculosis are managed. Unit 3+ is the dedicated unit at the PLC to receive patients requiring acute BiPAP for management of respiratory needs. Additionally this unit receives ALS patients for ongoing management. As the LPN, you will provide ongoing assessment, care, education, and coordination of services to patients and families. This includes assessment of physical, psychological, and social needs & planning appropriate interventions. The LPN participates in a multidisciplinary team and works both in an independent and collaborative manner. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent nursing experience within past year with acute medical teaching patients. Recent nursing experience within past year with pulmonary patients, including lung transplants Proficiency in connect care. Current It’s Your Move certification. Current N+5 Fit Test.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in central lines. Certified in central line and PICC removal. Have attended and completed a Chronic Ventilation Certification course. Chest tube flush certified. Recent experience of 6 months within the last 2 years caring for patients receiving Epoprostenol for treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension.
