Position Summary
Linux Service Engineer
Job Details – Linux & Windows Service Engineer – Level 3
We are transforming our Information Technology Operations on a global basis and looking for someone with a strong background in Linux operating systems, server hardware cloud technologies. Our mission is to achieve operational excellence and deliver services that matter to Deloitte Member Firms.
This position will be at the heart of fulfilling our mission by delivering excellent support services, assisting with migration efforts to the cloud services and internal application teams.
This role will join the Infrastructure Engineering staff of our Critical Infrastructure and Data Center Services organization. The individual must be able to work independently and have a strong understanding of critical infrastructure in a global platform setting.
It is important that the individual is comfortable working across teams, time zones, and career levels to achieve goals, who has strong business acumen and communication skills, and who has a solid all round understanding and experience of Windows & Linux OS, server hardware and cloud technologies.
Responsibilities
Role Specific
• Ability to diagnose issues with RedHat Linux OS and Windows Server OS to a competent level within a pressured environment and able to meet tight project deadlines to deliver new services to the organization.
• Ability to work with culturally and geographically diverse populations virtually.
• Responsible for the consistent build and ongoing and OS support for services hosted on Linux servers within Deloitte Technology.
• Responsible for training and knowledge sharing of the service delivery process to other members of the Regional Data Centers.
• Responsible for management of server lifecycles within multiple large scale data center environments across the globe.
• Monitoring of the Service Desk system and responding to issues that have been escalated to the TOC (Technology Operating Center)
• Compliance with Change Control Processes and adherence to standards and documentation.
• Working with project teams, network engineers and the technical support group implementing new services/systems as required.
• Optimization, performance and defining security standards of the server OS within the Regional Data Centers.
• Responsible for awareness and compliance with all aspects relating to policy and guidelines of the Information Security Management System (PM40.)
• Performs all related job functions following established process and procedures to preserve the confidentiality of information hosted and managed by the Deloitte Technology organization from unauthorized disclosure.
• Demonstrates the ability to protect the integrity of information hosted and managed by the GHCO organization from unauthorized or accidental modification and protect the accuracy and completeness of this information.
Technical Skills
• Working knowledge of RedHat v7, v8+ in a support setting.
• Working knowledge of Windows 2016, 2026 and 2026 OS.
• Working knowledge of scripting methods such as ansible.
• Willingness to get involved with technologies that interface with UNIX (such as but not limited to) LAMP Stack, TSM, Samba, LDAP, SAS, GPFS, Oracle, SAP, NAS, SAN, Storage, SFTP etc.
• Experience with working with HP, IBM, Dell or other datacenter server hardware and storage systems.
• Experience with working with cloud architecture (GCP, Azure, AWS.)
Soft Skills
• Willingness to participate in an on-call support rotation, with potential for weekend and out of hours work occasionally when the business requires this.
• Ability to support RHEL and Windows Server OS in an application hosting context, understand data backup and recovery mechanisms and other systems infrastructure.
• Excellent customer service skills with ability to communicate effectively, and across various seniority levels across the business.
• Ability to arrange and speak on calls with significant numbers of individuals across all levels to communicate mass changes to the environment.
• Experience of change control systems and change management.
• Experience of risk limitation, controls and systems.
• Ability to document solutions with a high level of detail and clarity.

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
